Concept to reality - Build Thread

Been a while since my last update, but I am still working on this bike. Slowly, but it's moving. I now have design concepts worked up that I would like to share. What are your thoughts? EDIT: My goal is to land on a form factor that is not quite motorcycle, but not bicycle either.

No, DC area. I used to live in San Jose though before moving to Fremont. Was on South First Street between San Carlos and San Salvador, by the SJSU campus. Back in 2006-07, it was not as "revitalized." My corner had 3 clubs/bars on it, not counting the ones just a door up or down on First)...

That'd be cool to see. I'm hopeful they stay in business and expand. You never know, they could be in your area before long.

I'm super excited. I got a membership to http://www.techshop.ws - Membership gives me access to all the equipment there, water jet, laser cutter, 3D printer, complete wood shop with 3D ShopBot, cold saw, CNC with 4D, tons of sheet metal punches and shears, angle iron shear, etc. It's a really...

    Electric drift trikes

I appreciate that it slides out, and that alone is fun, yes. I used to autocross and of course, with a Nissan 240sx, I did some drifting. So, I will just say that I HIGHLY encourage you to try it first (car or trike) before powering the front wheels - that is, try real drifting. Using your legs...

    Electric drift trikes

With the drive wheel in front, you're kind of just making the back go out to the side with your legs. Drifting is not just being sideways, but managing the point between grip and slip, and riding that around a turn at speed. With the drive wheel in front, you never lose grip - you just choose...

Let me get the stats for you over the weekend. As for the length, I agree. Comparing things as I have done on this thread, I realized that in mocking up the bike I have shortened the wheelbase. So now, even that Ducati Monster is only 1475mm or so and my mockup is shorter than that. So I have...

Definitely. I'm looking for 35-45 mph cruising, 50-55 top speed. No racing or anything, but not slow either. 17s are just standard, but yes, I have been thinking of 18s or 19s, as I do not want to use wider heavier motorcycle tires. Generally, 18 and 19 inch rims are used on the front, and...

Concept to reality - Build Thread

For the heck of it I did a rough comparison. I resized my bike down to where the rear wheel matched the ducati's rear wheel in height. Then superimposed the silhouette on the image. Check it out. Granted the Ducatis are at a slight angle, but I think this really puts it into perspective.

I think the dimensions are deceptive. I'm actually worried the bike is too small. Draw an imaginary line from the hip, to bend in the knee, and down to the foot peg. The knee will actually be fairly close to the front of the bike. Those are 17 inch wheels, I think it looks large because there...

    1. Thanks. I majored in English in college, so I should have decent grammar. Although, I do have a habit of using erroneous commas where I would pause in natural speech. Surely, I've done that above. 2. I'm not, but I hired a designer to build the frame in CAD so... 3. A shop can build the...

Robert I'll respond to you, but I also have a question to ES members at large at the end. Why custom: Vanity for the most part. Secondly, light bikes like the 150cc bikes you have in abundance there are not available here. It would be almost as costly for me to custom build something, as it...
