Q100H Front Motor build for wife question

Hey Motomech, Thanks again for the info. Are you talking about this one: http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/Mango/e-bikes-cruiser-ebikes/e-bikes-ebike-cruisers-superbird.htm This is definitely the easy route but its for 5'3" to 5'10" and she is 6'0" so bit worried it will feel small. This...

Q100H Front Motor build for wife question

Hello Motomech, Thanks for the reply. You gave me lots of great advice on my first bike. I suppose I could go with the Q128 instead and be close to the same speed. Hers would be faster as I weigh a fair amount more. In regards to gearing, she wants just assistance. She wants to pedal and I...

Q100H Front Motor build for wife question

Forgot to mention I was considering just buying the prelaced 700C wheel instead of having a wheel built like I did on my Q128 bike. I also plan to try and use the front fork accessory mount to attach a custom torque arm. Unless one already exists that has the hole for the accessory mount since...

Q100H Front Motor build for wife question

Hello All, I built a Q128 CST bike using a 36V 201 RPM motor and a 48V Pack and its been hassle free and I commute on it a few times a week when its warm out. My wife & I had a chance to ride a front motor (huge integrated motor and battery) when we rented bikes in Monterey. I was surprised...

Double wall rim no eyelets for Hub Motor?

Hello All, Been looking for a bike for my wife to covert to a low power hub motor. I plan to use a Q100C on 48V. The bike i am considering has 30mm deep rims double wall aloy rims but its NOT eyleted. Are eyelets mandatory for a hub motor build? As I said its a low power Q100 hub motor and...

The Pure City has deep double wall rims, but it is not eyleted? Will this work or are eyelets and requirement as well? Marc

Lacing Pattern for Q128 Hub Motor on 700c?

My bike pretty much maxed out at 46T so that is what I bought. Its a huge improvement and I think its perfect on my end. 48T might be better, but at 46T and 11T with motor and pedaling im moving pretty fast and unless the pavement is smooth it can get sketchy. When I had the 40T I would spin...

Lacing Pattern for Q128 Hub Motor on 700c?

Andy my bike had a 40t Chainring and 11T was my smallest on the cassette and I would run out of resistance pretty quickly. I changed my chainring to a 46T and its much better now. If you have a 36T you may as well buy as large a chainring that your frame will accommodate. Marc

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

Thanks motomech, I will look to see about buying a different rear rim. I asked the company to sell me a Double wall in red but they wont. Seems all replacement rims will be in silver and I may as well just use the same DTSwiss rim i used on the Q128. BMS has a wheel in rim option, but the...

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

Ok sounds great will go 36V Q100h in 260 and a 48V battery pack. Rear mounted motor makes sense just in case she decides she hates it and I will have more chance to repurpose a rear motor wheel than a front motor. I just noticed the bike has a single wall rim. Unsure if it has eyelets. Lets...

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

Hey Motomech. Thanks for the reply. As usual a few more questions.. So for her setup your suggestion is I go 48V and buy a 36V 260 Q100 motor? Im worried about this option getting her close to 300 rpm per volt.. Or 48V and 36V 201 motor? Any issues over volting the Q100 like I am doing the...

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

Hello All, I have been a bit preoccupied with work to get this build going. I spent the weekend test riding bikes for my wife. She is 6'1" and only 3" shorter than me so I figured I am close enough. Downside is most women specific bikes end at 5'10" but many are fine for a bit taller. I tried...

Lacing Pattern for Q128 Hub Motor on 700c?

I cant remember what gauge spokes I bought but do remember buying them from an ebay seller who only sells spokes. They were Sapim Brand, butted and specifically for ebikes. If your bike has a Sram crank you may need to make an adapter as a spacing tool to get the PAS ring in place. I almost...

BMS Rear Rack Battery Anyone tried it?

Hey Chas, I chatted with BMS last night and found out that the battery combo with rack is quite heavy but I think its doable. Battery is 3.9KG and rack is between 1 and 1.5kg.. Motor 2.1kg...so its close to a 17lb addition in weight. I think my Q128 setup with a larger Voltage and capacity...

Thanks Motomech, This was just what I needed to hear. I live a mile away from Pure Cycles main office in Burbank and I plan to go have a look at their city bike. Been going back and forth with decision on Priority classic plus step through and the Pure City. Im leaning toward the Pure CIty...

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

Im now pretty sure I am going with a Q100h on the front with the battery on the rear rack. Motor and battery will be 36V so this will be a low power setup and maybe will help with the battery weight on the rear being 36V and less cells. My question that nobody has answered is does a front...

BMS Rear Rack Battery Anyone tried it?

Wow 10lbs seems high. My wife doesnot need snappy handling. Bike im looking to electrify is aupright dutch type bike. Likely gonna be a Pure City 3 or 8 speed. This has a steel front fork so figured a Q100h on the front and this rack bettery on the back. The swoopy downtube make mounting a case...

BMS Rear Rack Battery Anyone tried it?

Hello All, Im considering a few options for a bike build for my wife and im considering buying her a different bike with a steel front fork and could then go with a Q100 front drive. To balance out the weight and keep with the look of the bike Im considering buying a rear rack mounted battery...

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

Yes I want to keep it low power. So another option is I could buy her a new bike with a steel front fork and put the motor on the front. My only concern is she is used to having a front fork so the ride may be a bit harsh. Does riding a front driven motor feel wierd. If the bike feels...

Considering hub motor build for wife... Few questions

OK great to hear. So I guess the waterproof wiring harness I used on the Q128 should work on the Q100. Suppose my only remaining question is if anyone has purchased the rear rack integrated battery setup. On my bike I did not want it since I already had a heavier Q128 and did not want too...
