13s4p/48V/21700 DIY Questions - Samsung 50E okay for 750W BBS02? [Edit: Why is nothing in stock?]

That's a suspiciously good price. Are those verified to be authentic cells?

new battery case idea no welding/soldering

I've tried both of these systems. Vruzend is great for stationary applications , but not good for high vibration, like bikes etc . The caps shatter after a year or so and lose integrity. The NESE modules are a whole 'nother ballgame. They're much more robust and can handle road and light off...

Buying a new battery: your advice sought

One thing to add ; a thin sheet of PVC , wood , clipboard backing, whatever, to the broadside of the assembled modules and duct tape or shrink wrap it, it really makes it durable and essentially vibration proof if you're a more active biker. I don't wrap mine though as I mostly stay on the pavement.

Buying a new battery: your advice sought

Yep they're great. The real beauty of the NESE modules is if you need higher amps, just pop in 40T and you're set.

Buying a new battery: your advice sought

It's 14s5p stacked flat and laying on it's side , like a loaf of bread if you will. That's "25AH" @ 58.8V if you charge to 4.2V per cell. I don't . I charge to 57.4V (4.1V per cell. I haven't measured actual capacity , but it's close to that number after 15 months of every day use . For low...

Buying a new battery: your advice sought

18650batterystore(retail side)/Bulkbattery.com(wholesale side) is a good vendor in my experience. I've only had 3 orders with them, but they ship fast and their products and support are spot on. They're my go-to . 50E2 using NESE modules has been the best combination I've used . No worry about...

    What cells to choose?

If you end up going the cylindrical shape route , and spot wielding isn't an option, I would recommend the NESE modules. I've been using them on a daily commuter for about a year now and they've been trouble free. Individual cell dimensions matter , though, so be sure to let him know if you're...

    Li-ion cells cycle ageing

Yeh the dimension variances are not cool. It sucks to design an enclosure only to find that some cells of a particular model will fit while others won't.

Nice , thank you sir :)

    Li-ion cells cycle ageing

Yeh definitely, since prices and availability of Samsung & LG cells are becoming more painful every day it seems. A good low cost competitor is sorely needed. I lucked out and grabbed 100 50e while they were still under $5 , but they're now over $7 pretty much anywhere in the states.

    50E and NESE

Just to update those that are interested, I got the 14s NESE build on my wife's Radrunner and it's awesome how well it fits under the seat on that bike . If you are using 50E with those modules , make sure you tell Agnius (@ AMTech) up front that you are using that cell so he can upscale the...

    safe fusing /circuit breaker

I just had the breaker from another project and thought of using it , if it is sufficient to avoid a fire in the event of a wipeout type scenario. I'm hesitant to fool with bms units due to "another electronic gadget to fail" , but I do see the value in them and may just do that anyway.

    safe fusing /circuit breaker

In case of a dead short, is a 60 amp fuse good enough to prevent a fire ?

    safe fusing /circuit breaker

My wife has a RadRunner which has 14 ga leads for the battery side . I replaced the stock battery and hugo connector with a 14s that I made w/ 12ga and 30A Anderson PPs . I was curious if a 60A 72V breaker would be good enough or should I stick with an inline fuse of lesser rating like 30A or...

    50E and NESE

Has anyone had experience with the 21700 NESE modules fitted with Samsung 50E ? I don't have a dial caliper to measure mine, but I suspect they're just slightly too long to fit without damaging the module and cover. I suppose it's possible that my cells are fakes, but the wrapper and positive...

Amount of cells? many or few

Ah ok. Thanks for clarifying that and being nice about it .

Amount of cells? many or few

Also , while the more cells you have in parallel ,the less total resistance there will be, mixing high impedance and low impedance is a bad idea , from my limited understanding. You wouldn't want VTC5a mixed with PF in other words.

    meanwell issue

Ah, ok , I never considered that they didn't design these in mind to power an already powered device. Makes sense. Thank you sir.

    meanwell issue

It doesn't get power at the output leads unless I plug it in before adding a load. I tested it by removing the battery . It will be 0 v until I unplug it for a minute . Like it resets a tripped breaker/failsafe , whatever the mechanism is. As long as I let the caps charge first , I can plug in...

    meanwell issue

I have a Meanwell HLG 480-54a that will only " turn on" if I apply input voltage first and then apply the load. If I hook it up to the battery first and then plug it in, it doesn't charge . Is this a function of current fault protection or is there some type of disfunction going on?

Battery switches off at full throttle

No I meant my guestimate was stupidly inaccurate. I was brainfarting off the hip when I said it probably had 80% left. It likely is closer to 90% , but the drop in capacity after the first year , 100ish cycles , was very noticeable. I haven't discharged it completely to test the capacity...

80% is stupidly inaccurate. It's very noticeable though.

Battery switches off at full throttle

My wife has a Radrunner with a similar battery except it's only 13s5p and she has a lead foot...err lead thumb to be more exact . The controller on that contraption peaks at like 18amps I believe and after a year, the capacity has shown a noticeable drop. It still has probably 80% of its new...
