Hey all, happy(er) and healthy(er) New Year!

I haven't been around for a while, so much has changed!
DrkAngel's index is huge and even more amazing!

I searched and this question was asked often, and I'm sure you gurus are tired of these type of questions.
Reminds me of Life of Brian (out the door, one cross each, line on the left)

Here it comes...

Could you *please* recommend a simple BMS for (13x) Turningy 5.0 batteries?

I changed one of them to 1s4p to make a 13s4p battery pack.

So anything with 13s

or even 4x 4s BMS is fine.

I read about issues with Daly BMS LVC but unsure if it's really an issue.

This is for an Ebike.

Appreciate your BMS recommendations!

The more you become an expert on proper care of LI packs

the more hesitant you will be about this topic.

What on earth leads you to believe using four super cheap-Chinese BMS in series to create a 13S pack is likely to work?

You can't believe that just buying an all-in-one gadget is going to solve everything. A "BMS" is just a collection of functionalities and for each one there are a dozen approaches.

You need to understand at a pretty deep level each of those functions, decide what are the approaches you want, and then start resear hing ask specific question of those members with experience with each.

And recognize with many cheap "brands" the components are getting swapped out from month to month, so you never know what you're going to get.

The BMS is usually the least reliable device on board, very often the **cause** of failure rather than doing anything useful, why called by many a Battery Murder System.

Good quality ones can cost more than most are most are willing to spend on their cells...

You're going to put four bricks in series to make a 12S-1P. Then you'll make three more strings. Then the 1x4 balance connectors from each brick group will have to be connected in parallel. Finally, you add a 1S-4P at the end. Whew. That is going to be a rat's nest of wires.

Do the 13S BMS. Look for a balance BMS that actually has balance circuits. All of them claim to be balance BMS, but you have to look in the specifications for a balance current, usually around 40-50 ma. I cannot recommend a BMS. I bought two 13S this year and one didn't work. I'm partial to the Annpower brand though on aliexpress. None of those were DOA on me.

The other popular type is ANT.

Daly is likely fine, just not as featureful.

Reliability is sus for all, buy spares and be prepared to monitor / check and make it easily replaced

John61ct thank you for your suggestions.
I had checked out some of your mentions and looked also into the others.
They are a bit expensive and so I decided to just try a $50 shipped 4S Daly smart BMS for now, need to replace a 12V7Ah SLA anyhow.
I understand the active vs passive/cutoff balancing issue, am balancing manually right now.

The 13S is just for my "Harley", to replace the stuck O2Micro OZ890 BMS.

I hope I get back into it all, summer is coming here in SoCal.
Thanks for your continued support and help!
