Kent Outdoors looking for buyer for Kona Bikes

MONTEREY, Calif. (BRAIN) — Kent Outdoors, which acquired Kona Bikes from its founders in 2022, said Friday that after a strategic review it has decided to sell the bike brand.

This is a real shame. Kona has made many great bikes over the years.

And there are rumors of both Trek and Giant in serous trouble.

The "writing was on the wall" for Kona after they pulled out of Sea Otter precipitously after paying (probably a small fortune for the site) and actually setting up their booth. This was my LBS's main brand for many years.

Kona has been selling ebikes since 2010. That's 14 years! Really a shame.

Kona unveiled this crazy thing back in 2009!

I would be a fun project to turn one of these into a modern mid drive.
