I ride a lot of trails and I just don't want more things to get hooked on branches and banged up. That's in addition to the aesthetics.

The stock controller is good up to 45A and 52V, which pushes my fat butt 30 mph and tops out at 40mph.

I think if I had a 60V or 72V battery already I'd go external. I've see some clean builds with the ASI controller and it's absolutely better than the Bafang internal controller. If I hadn't found a way to make the Bafang controller work reliably at 45A that's the way I would have went. Especially if I was just commuting.
