AND it switches you from glycogen to TG- so you burn fat too, not just sugar  very interesting
But, it is the opposite that a pre-diabetic would want. Now i know why tea never gives me more energy

Bought a 25 pound box of Roasted Salted Peanuts with shells.
$34.65

let's see, if 15# net, how many calories is that? about 170 per oz. so 170x16x15=40,800 if 3500 gains 1#, you can gain 11# if you eat them fast enough.
I find that i can slowly gain weight if i eat just 1/2 oz of PB a day.

Gents real interesting thread! My thanks to Matt, nepp and lab insight from fechter... I've been fighting the same demon for over 35 years... I hope this thread continues, and we continue to learn things. One thing I would like to share. I was a member of "mended hearts" as was my WWII nurse mother. I had to have a cardiac intervention 20 years ago. At one of our meetings, the director of cardiology of a prestigious hospital came to talk to us. He said: "I could give a talk, but instead I'm going to open the floor for you to ask the questions you never got completely answered from your cardiologist.

But before questions, he said: "I want you to understand a few things. You are not here because of what you ate, or how you exercised. You are here because of your genetics. There is a protocol I give to all my family members once they hit 40. I put them on low dose statin and an aspirin a day. The statin changes the characteristic of the plaque in the blood vessels, it makes it gummy and makes it stick. Brittle plaque is what breaks off and causes sudden heart attack deaths. The aspirin is a blood thinner that keeps the platelets from sticking and building clots. Thought I would share his advice for what it is worth.

A question for Matt, do you use a test indicator for glucose (finger stick). I have tested for 30+ years and know that if you are seeing it in your urine you way high. Your fasting glucose level may be low, but you may be going very high postprandial, say at 1 to 5 hours after eating. Numbers above 140 have a cumulative damage effect, even with 80 fasting numbers... ask me how I know? That was my problem before diagnosis. Never picked up by the GP with normal tests. I ended up with peripheral neuropathy ( haven't felt either of my feet since 1982) and had that cardiac intervention in 2000. Since diagnosis in the 1990's I've been able to keep my hbA1c around 5.6 it started climbing to 6.0 after I reached 60+ I am now trying everything (hence interest in this thread) to get it lower.

My entire life I always skipped breakfast, guess it was my first attempt at intermittent fasting. These days I only eat, at most twice a day, or as Nepp does once a day and maybe a snack. I stay clear of carbs as best I can, and that is really hard for an Italian guy!... The only way I can loose weight is fasting, period. A "normal" friend and I went into low carb diet regime 12 or so years ago, he went right into ketosis and I never did. Always at the border line. Doc always believed I was cheating, but as you guy said my gluco neo genesis pathway was dysfunctional. I just could not turn on the fat burning. That is still my problem.

no home glucose tests for blood. urine tests show nothing. I lost decades because Dr's blamed it on genes. So if a Dr says it is genes, i ditch him. Truth is, many genes are switched on/off by diet and lifestyle. If a Dr. does not know this, he/she is not qualified. I told my neighbor :"everybody is different, so try different things and see if you can improve" He has arthritis and still drinks cow milk. he is over 60. time to try weaning  Sure genes are involved, but the bottom line is, try testing things that could improve your health. Food and exercise are easy, and if they work, Dr's lose business, so it is a fact that most want a full waiting room, and make more money if the patient stays sick. Always ask to see evidence that the Dr. has cured patients. No cures, keep looking for a better Dr.
My A1C tested 5.1, so i don't think i have diabetes. I'm really not sure that i ever had typical diabetes, but i did have insulin resistance and mild CVD. Or maybe not. It depends on how the condition is defined. By Nathan Pritikin, i did have it based on my symptoms and a 115 fasting BG test. Everybody else calls this Pre-diabetes. But a NAME does not matter to me, since if i inject insulin my pancreas will down-regulate and i'll have to inject it every day. What if i have 2 or 3 other things wrong, and i don't feel tip top? So i'm not too concerned with my BG, it has never entered the serious diabetes range. Since i eat all day, at least 5 or 6 times, my BG can't be crazy high with a 5.1 A1C. At the time of this last test i was testing the idea that carbs will make me gain weight, and i was eating 1/2 loaf of bread a day extra with little success. BUT skip all that extra bread, and eat 1/2 oz of peanut butter, this does the trick.
Thanks for chiming in! Good to read your story. 8)
