HS3570 Hotrod Project with 46T->74T Hammerschmidt Chainwheel

Anyhow, aren't you building something illegal already?

The idea is to use this with an "experimental license". You can get a red license plate here in Germany for such purposes. Still, I have to take care about legal issues like the 50V AC. 3-phase AC is still AC. I'm not sure yet how our BLDC 3-Phase AC is defined exactly. The voltage difference wont exceed 50V between two wires in my case, when using 50V max battery :? That's something I need to find out.

Guess I have to ask our "TÜV" road licensing guys about that.

The five screw holes that are placed wrong where drilled by the metal shop where I bought the sheet... they are about 5mm accurate :x and wont fit at all. Payed 10 bucks for that and had to do it myself again in the end.

Result: The chainwheel wobble is only 0.5mm! All this with only a circle tool, some paint, a handrill and a file :p Oh I forgot, I also used my hacksaw ;) Took me 4 hours including buying the sheet and installing the hole thing.

The 46T is only for testing, I will go 52T in the and... just had no 52T at hand.

I will now drive to merlin to collect my new Cycle Analyst and have test on the way :p

crossbreak,

as neptronix mentioned before, I think it's not AC, it's DC, as the current does not alter its direction. Even "pulsed" DC should be treated as DC.

cheers, phil.

ps: you`re still planning to run the pie in delta mode, aren't you?

Yes I still want to run the Pie in Delta.

Both current and voltage indeed alter it's direction! A BLDC motor is nothing else than a synchronous machine or PMSM. The "BLDC" term is just for marketing. In fact it has nothing to do with DC at all. Read for instance: http://www.control.com/thread/1026172925

Current through such a motor look like this:

crossbreak, you're right. my fault. didn`t dig that deep into basics yet.

Nice!

the Pie will end up in my test-bench / dyno with the friction drive EMP 80-85 motor as a brake unit. But I will still convert it just to try it. If that works fine i'll do the same with the HS3540.

The tube I used with the Pie exploded when I inflated it the first time, need a new one first. I had to use a 90degree valve adapter to inflate it.

when driving up the Melibokus hill, it made my XT60 battery connectors burn at only 50amps current setting :x I'll switch to XT90

Upgraded both phase and battery wires to AWG8 or 10mm² for the 24xIRFB3077 controller

Finally did the Star->Delta conversion on the HS3540, it's a HS3570 now :D , sorry for no final pic

Also got a Centurion frame with 130mm travel front and rear, 1" or 2.5cm longer wheel base (wheelies much less now). Will use a 24" next with Schwalbe Crazy Bob tires that look so nice on Merlin's 100kph built.

Final pic, also added some epoxy to the phase wire outlet of the hub. This way there is 5mm distance between brake disc screws and the motor wires :p

Epoxy used (look closely in the picture) is good for 300°C max ;)

Love the details of how you made your Hammerschmidt chainwheel adapter.
It's amazing what some can do with only a few basic tools.

Thanks! BTW I have a CA V3 and a 24Fet IRFB3077 Greentime with smaller housing mounted now. More info about the Greentime here: http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=40900&start=550#p732205 and http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=40900&start=625#p754296

I joined the 46mph club yesterday evening with only 12s Lipo and a OZ890 SmartBMS set to 100amps with Stock IRFB4410 Fets

The Hammerschmidt is multi purpose when using this Adapter, it can be used as:

-Torque converter: The contrary torque arm could be used with a torque sensor directly mounted on the frame without wireless measurement
- Freewheel crank with overdrive: It has built-in freewheel function so it can be used in a Middrive as a hybrid clutch

Both features together make it a perfect tool for Humen->eBike interface assimilation.
