Seems like a worthy new "thing" to discuss? After all the battery packs and drive systems, frames, bikes and stuff it still boils down to wrangling with traffic on 2 or 3 wheels.

I originally heard of the Ridar system on RTM - http://www.rightthisminute.com/video/rtmtv-new-driving-app-could-save-your-life

Unless every Oscar Grope (car driver) is also running the app it doesn’t do much. However, if it were manufacturer equipment in new vehicles I would consider running a beacon on my phone, while I ride. What about you?

Maybe new cars already have proximity sensors capable of distinguishing bikes from large stuff and it's merely a matter of getting them to include this technology into hurtling machinery?

I prefer having sufficient performance that cars become slow moving objects in the road that I avoid instead of vice versa.
