I want to test various tin plated solid copper wire sizes to determine their fuse current when connected to an aluminum bus bar (heat sink) with roughly 15mm lengths.

I'll need a more stout power supply that can handle up to 40A at 3 - 4.2v for about 15 seconds. I'm thinking of buying an Astron vrm-50m linear supply for these tests. Good choice or will it have issues with essentaly a direct short?

If you were local to me you could have a big old heavy PSU I have here, looks similar to that one but is probalby older technology. I don't think I've used it in at least a decade (was given to me some years before that, and I think I have used it once to test some RC Lipo to destruction). But it's too big and heavy to ship. Been stored in a shed all that time, so it's probably pretty dusty/dirty, probably still works though.

I coudln't find a pic of it, but here's the vidoes of the test showing the psu
