Tire size ?

I ordered these 36 hole 16inch moped rims off of ebay
I also ordered a set of 16inch moped tires but even though the tires say 16×3.0 the actual inside diameter is only like 12 inches.What tire size do I need to get.

That is a 16 inch motorcycle rim
It does fit 16inch motorcycle tires, and some 20 inch bicycle tires.

The mistake, or confusion, was to buy (or ship) the tire by bicycle standard measurements.

Motorcycle vs Bicycle rim/tire sizes are different.
MC - Bicycle

19 - 24

Moped tire sizes are measured at the inside-diameter (ID) of the tire (just like motorcycles), but bicycle tires are measured by the average outside-diameters (OD) from years ago. This is why for several years now, hot rod non-hub ebikes put 16-inch Pirelli moped tires on wide 20-inch bicycle rims (they fit!). The best selection in moped tires is for the 17-inch and 19-inch sizes, and visually…a 17-inch moped interface is very similar to a bicycle 20-inch, and the 19-inch moped interface is very similar to a 24-inch bicycle interface.

that's a moto rim and a bicycle tire.. different measurement methodology.. you need to check the tire bead seat diameter.. 20" bicycle tire may fit the rim but won't be as durable as a moped , moto tire..

Those 16/3 tires aren't actually moped tires. They're scooter tires, and they call them by a funny size name.


Actual moped tires should fit your moped rims.

Actuality, those are MotorSCOOTER tires, that measure different from Moped, motorcycle, and/or bicycle tires. 16" Moped tires are the same size as motorcycle, and interchangeable with 20" Bicycle.
Scooter tires are sold by the outside diameter, and the rim size can vary.
