Ebike build for my 20 mile (1 way) commute (oh and an Intro)

Hi Karla~ as said....you are pretty much in a class of your own, in terms of your efforts. However, I can really relate to your particular commute.(which I did, unassisted for a few years, before being deeply provoked into electric) I'm 58, and was pretty buggered up by a motorcycle wreck a...

    carbon trike + electric screwdriver

This is one've those momentarily inspiring ideas, especially because of it's very unique approach. Initially, my head was spinning with mods that would of course, make it more practicable, comfortable, and powerful. But in the end, I see that every "mishap" is designed to happen...

    Your Throttle preference

Trigger-throttle??? What is that? Never have seen one yet, but I like the idea. If anyone has one, could you post a picture, please?

Any way to do 100 miles or more with an ebike?

Enjoyable thread....gets everyone to dreamin. And remembering. I did 100miles a day for nine months back in the 70's (no electric), and that was on a Brooks Saddle. Now, twenty miles, no electric really makes me moan. My butt gives out before my legs, but saddles are pretty cozy these days...

Winter Riding "Often or Not" Is it safe?

That video that GCinDC posted says it all for me. I'm getting studded tires asap. I ride in all but the worst weather, which includes a good bit've snow this year. A couple've evenings, conditions worstened while I was out (all the slush turned to ice as it got cold)...and I got off and...

    First build... Alot of questions

Hi, and welcome to EP. Weight is definately a factor in efficiency of any set-up. And you are starting off a little heavy. RC Lipo is most power/weight ratio you can go with, but there's alot to learn about using it safely and not ruining it. Generally, the battery is the most expensive...

    spokes

I started out with 12ga spokes mated to a 9C, and they are too stiff to be woven flat. So, in fact, it's hardly possible to get a nice, even tension on such big spokes, and the wheel tended to need frequent fussing with. Changed over to 13ga and it's been good, ever since. I haven't had to...

    Nite Ride

The only wierd thing about the video was that I couldn't see any headlights on their bikes. I guess they ride "all aglow"....but what a thing to see, making it's way out've the forest trails and into town, eh?

    Ultimate Ebike transport

You've got me to thinking. I've not done long tours on my ebike yet, but plenty via the ole pedal power, with lots of gear. The amount of weight to your proposed battery pack is going to be huge. I'd recommend a Bob trailer, to keep some of that weight spread out and off your bike. Or even a...

    Ultimate Ebike transport

What a noble enterprise. Be prepared for very different voltages coming through standard outlets, for charging. Best of luck.

    bicycle frame???

Alot've us here are probably very regular Craigslist cruisers, looking for the deal(s). My eye goes first to the headset, to see if the bike has the inherent capability of upgraded front suspension. A 1 1/8" steerer is essential for this, since there is no really decent front susp fork in the...

How many miles on your Lipo??

Dogman~ That's quite a mule you got there. It looks like you've got twice the stuff on there I could fit on my Bob trailer, too. I can't believe that standard rear wheel and tire can take it. If you ever have occasion to strip 'er down (unload all that stuff).... I'd like to see how you...

    9 Lives? (Re: Porsche Crash)

Some people are zipped away from here very quickly and easily...like stumbling off a little stepstool, getting something off the top shelf. Others are sort've forced to return, through an agonizing recovery that includes many body parts and functions. But divine intervention has many faces...

    Myrccycle relplacement lens?

Veloman~ You are exactly right. Had I just peeked into my mirror from 8" away and realized I could see my entire face and the garden shed as well behind me....well...I would've caught on. Back to the $6 replacements. THanks.

How many miles on your Lipo??

That was quite an analysis, and very useful. It perhaps reveals that my intial question was not a good question. Life of batts has much more to do with how we treat them, than how we build them, which everyone already knew. But at least I sort've know what to expect now, as to the "possible"...

Ryobi Lithium batteries Good for ebike?

When you buy cordless tools, it seems they throw in the chargers for free or something. But buying chargers seperately gets ridiculously expensive. I'd need twelve of these babies and at least six chargers to fulfill a reasonable duty. And then, there's the bulkiness of all those charging...

How many miles on your Lipo??

regardless of whatever motor you use or speed to like to travel at, I have always assumed that the most important thing to longevity lies in the % of overbuild you have in reserve, before LVC on your typical commute. This assumption may or may not be at all valid. I just always felt that the...

How many miles on your Lipo??

Neil~ That's one heck of a pack. Long commute? Where did you put it on the bike?

How many miles on your Lipo??

I only have 3100 miles on my first and only pack. The majority of those miles was in California, where I had a 20 mile commute (sort've brutal). 15s 4p for that. Here, I have zero commute but ride often. Reduced the pack to 3p, and so have these spare cells that I keep similarly aged by...

How many miles on your Lipo??

Yes,,,,,that's a very good thread, Neil...and seems to make my question too simplistic, or assuming that everyone's cells arrive perfect and stayed in balance. Of course that is not the case. I just happen to be about 160 cycles into my first pack and everything is still up and balancing well...

How many miles on your Lipo??

I'm just curious. Who'se gotten the most miles on their Lipo setup? What's the size of your pack? What are your riding conditions? I'm more curious about overall lifespan in miles, than how many charge cycles. Once we know you're one've the winners...then maybe we can pick your brain about...
