Well, this isn't very e-bike related, but I figured this'd be the best place I knew of to ask.

I'm looking for a DC-DC step-up converter that'll output ~12v on a ~6v input. Does anyone have any recommendations?

I have an acquaintance who is rewiring a vintage motorcycle and updating the electronics to 12v. Instead of rewinding the flywheel generator, I figured that this would be a much easier option.

Check out http://www.powerstream.com/

Click on dc-dc converters and look toward the bottom of the page:

The PST-SR700-6 DC/DC converters are useful for voltage conversion to operate 12 volt negative ground electronics off 6 volt, positive ground vehicles, best for radios, stereos, DVDs, CB radios, transmitters. They might not applicable to motors, ignition coils, or solenoids, further testing is necessary.
Motors: Running motors from these units will void the warranty.
This is a 6 volt dc to 12 volt dc converter. These are Boost Converters. For semi-custom applications you can specify any output voltage from 10 to 15 volts with a minimum order of 10 pieces. They can be adjusted between 13.8 and 11.2 volts with an internal pot.

The PSTC-0624012 is an exciting new 250 Watt DC converter that can be used with either negative ground or positive ground cars. Negative ground cars like vintage Volkswagens and Porches can now run 12 volt electronics.

well, since you didn't say much about the amperage requirement...

Niiice. Assuming the outputs can be paralleled, it'd be perfect.

I don't know the current requirements yet. We're not talking sound systems and toaster ovens here, just lights and turn signals.

I don't know the dimensions of the PowerStream units, so they may not actually fit on the motorcycle. But it looks like it'd work perfectly, electrically speaking.
