I have been wondering whether it could be possible to convert the Bafang FM G020.350.DM https://bafang-e.com/en/oem-area/components/component/motor/fm-g020350dm/ to regen, and then add a throttle type sensor to the drum brake that measures lever displacement, which can be set up so the first half of lever actuation linearly increases regen braking and the second half actuates the drum brake, and this regen signal would go through the standard motor I/O cable. This would produce the cleanest and most weather resistant hub motor you can imagine, ideal for fat bikes and commuters.

Is that a drum brake or a band brake?

Nope, not without modifying the motor, since it's geared.
