Wesnewell how would he propertly charge the battery ? Please include this every time you quote battery price. Plus a charging station for lipo noobs like a barbeque. Not for in house or garage. Read up on lipo. Or utube lipo fires.
There are many ways to properly and safely charge rc lipo batteries. And then there are people that like to watch them burn and abuse them enough to make that happen. And then there are those that do it for propaganda purposes. Any battery can burn under the right/wrong conditions. This will give you all the info you need on charging rc lipo batteries. I see no reason to repeat on a regular basis what's been covered many times here on es.

I've been using it over 4 years. I've charged it many ways and never had a problem. Safe charger solutions.
1 Bulk charger with bms
2 Bulk charger with battery medics
3 Rc balance charger.

2 more questions. If I search out a ready to go lipo battery... as I understand, I'm looking for 20A Continuous....or 25 to 30? Here is the wheel kit.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/48V-1000W-Electric-Bicycle-Cycle-E-Bike-26-Conversion-Kit-Hub-Motor-Rear-Wheel-/221690961896?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item339dcf9fe8

Thuis kit also says "max weight 80kg" I'm heavier than 185lbs....will this be a problem?

And...how about Conhis motor? I found a battery pack....their best listed at 48v 25AH would land me only $5 over budget. Thats the best bang for the buck I've found.....but where's the catch...

Based on my seemingly endless search, there has to be a catch... there's ALWAYS a catch, lol. Yep... shipping put's me at $773 ... not bad. $ 113 more than I wanted to spend. ($563 for 20ah batt)

I might be learning quickly about lipo pack's... or bite the bullet. I dug my own grave here by insisting on a 1000w kit, and jumping on it this afternoon. I suppose I could try to sell it and go with a 500 watt kit to stay with budget.

I'm pretty sure I could get the hang of thing's. If it's a matter of being careful and knowledgeable, I can do that, the trouble is...finding reliable information, and even someone to demonstrate things in person.

actually, this turns out to be cheaper over all and ships from the united states.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Electric-Bicycle-ebike-48V-15AH-Lithium-Li-ion-Battery-charger-1-Yr-Warranty/331037670108?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29947%26meid%3D5b056c166d9f4492b5880d4fc375b921%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D121587501587&rt=nc

It's a lot more than a diy turnigy kit. But a lot less thought involved. And only $85 over budget.

But wait conhis comes back with this punch ...http://www.ebay.com/itm/Electric-Bicycle-ebike-48V-15AH-Lithium-Li-ion-Battery-charger-1-Yr-Warranty/331037670108?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D29947%26meid%3D5b056c166d9f4492b5880d4fc375b921%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D121587501587&rt=nc regular lithium thats just $93 over budget and has 3 more AH than the other... hmm

Endless -searching is getting to be more like it

Ok, I can't see spending this kind of money on a gamble. That I might have gotten an underpowered battery.

So I've upped my standards to sourcing a 48v 20ah Minimum, Lifepo4 battery. For $450ish dollar's.

They exist, but all of them - Ship from China with a disclaimer about an extra duty fee.. Oye! always a catch...does anyone know about this "fee"? Unless this will work it's in the USA... http://www.ebay.com/itm/48V-10AH-LIFEPO4-BATTERY-PACK-POWER-FOR-EBIKE-FREE-CHARGER-NEW-CELL-/191527652427?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c97f00c4b but it's only a 15a dischg rate.

Ok this seems to be my best bet. Wait for BMS, and hope for no delivery surcharge surprise....

https://bmsbattery.com/ebike-battery/623-high-c-rate-48v10ah-lifepo4-alloy-07-case-battery-pack-battery.html

It's High C rate gives it a claimed 30a 'maximal?' continuous discharge rate. They provide no standard c d rating.

Its in budget. has at least some range at 10ah. I'd like to mount it down low but it looks like its going to need an accy rack.

Any advice on this choice?

Hows shopping from aliexpress??

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/FREE-TNT-shipping-1000W-Electric-bike-Lithium-Ion-Battery-48V-15AH-with-for-SAMSUNG-2600MAH-CELL/1654963876.html

Sounds tempting but both ad's list 2 different specs for the same battery. something doesnt seem right

I think I might spend the extra $33 for this neat looking rack mount.. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/free-shipping-48V-1000W-Electric-bike-battery-Lithium-ebike-luggage-battery-48V-16Ah-with-BMS-54/32254094538.html but one of those bare square ones I might be able to mount on a triangle bag...hmmm

Hopefully I havent been abandoned here... I think I found one I dig. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/48V-20AH-LiFePO4-Battery-with-BMS-Chargrer-E-bike-Electric-Bicycle-Scooter-Lithium-battery-2015016/32253218350.html

Only $10 over budget. I can swing that. Has the highest quality I could find for the price. lifepo4 sealed BMS 30 rating 60amp max inst. And the ad doesn't list lesser specs elsewhere.
Other highlights are a 60v 6a smart charger and $1600 to 2000 cycles.

My only hold-up is, it says "BMS set for 1200 watts" does that mean I cant use it with a 1000 watt hub ? Just making sure.

It'll pay for itself in 6 1/2 months of use, with an estimated $70 monthly fuel saving's (I drive an Aveo)

Just to let you know I purchased a Calibike 48v 15ah battery last year and it is still working great. I use it with an ebay 48v 1000w kit gets me around 33-35mph max speed however me and the bike combined is 210lbs. I have a switch that I use to keep the speed at 20 for longer range rides and the longest ive ridden is 36 miles and the battery still had juice left.

Thank you for that. I'll probably be about 270lbs with me and the bike. I just searched that Calibike battery. Looks High quality, but Its also little pricier than the one I'm looking at.

Yes, BUT. The batteries from China ship on the slow boat from China thing ( 6plus weeks )with close to zero recourse for help ( support ). You can't return it, you can't return any battery. At least calibattery is US based and a live person Rafael. Not just a China reseller with zero battery knowledge.
That kit from Jersey is like Wesenwell runs.
Just don't run wot as the rule or for long. Do you drive your car with the gas peddle on the floor ? This can kill a battery you are using on it's limits. Peddle first starts as the rule or always. This is ez on the battery, no hard starts.

I thought about it all day and ended up at the same conclusion as you Zip.

Even though that batt from china promises 7 days or it's free, I suspect there's a bit of hype in that ad.

The Calibike battery, while only rated at 15ah 800 recharge cycles.. has good reviews around the net, has a more local reputation to uphold, and the battery is actually still rated at 30a. and suggested for use with 1000w systems. And I like the tidy triangle case.

It should ship fast...and wont have any surprise duty fee's. It's over budget though. I could go with the $500 kit, but for the $50 that neat little triangle bag would keep the bike looking slick. But in the end $750 still isn't bad for what I got. If I got the storm e bike at $650 +$65(est) shipping. That's $715.

Maybe I can sell a guitar amp to get a Helmet and a torque arm.

So I'm actually only $35 over my actual challenge. And for $35 more I'll have 7 speed's. more power and more range. And way less "hey look at me" tires. Mines not wild yellow, but it's this really cool shade of bluish purple. More to come. Moving to the general forum. Thanks everyone who contributed. I dont feel like such a novice anymore, although I still am.

And Yes and Yes, to the pedal take off's and throttle limiting.
