I have used 3 types of mud guards. PVC is cheap and does good in the summer but easy to crack or break when frozen. Carbon fiber is good in all conditions but more prone to crack in the winter, expansive and available in a limited choice of models. Alu is my favorite for the low cost and long life, easy to paint, light weight and ‘bolt and screw’ convenient.
Since I ride MTB racing tires or 3’’ wide slicks, I buy the mud guards in trial motorcycle universal front models, for most of them are the proper width, available any radius, and easy to mount on any bike front or rear.
