2024 MotoE season - technical interview with Roberto Cane

https://www.epaddock.it/en/interview-with-roberto-can%C3%A8-director-of-motoe-project-at-ducati/ "Absurdly, if the V21L had cells working at maximum temperatures increased by 20°C or 30°C, we would completely remove the cooling system: radiator, ducts, channels inside the battery, and liquid...

    DIY Quadricycle ideas - 100 V controllers?

Hi all, some of my students are looking into building an electric quadricycle and I've told them I'll provide a battery (I've got a 6 kWh, 88 V nominal 24s pack which weighs 33 kg - from the Prelude project). Are 100 V controllers common enough? I might get a couple of 1000 W hub motors and...

Making ES Friends IRL - Poll

Hi Everyone, I've had the joy of being on Endless Sphere since 2009 and in that time, learned so much, built so much and made stacks of great friends. The funny thing about the internet is that we can form a tight community without the in-real-life meetings we'd normally have. But if you've...

e-bike battery, pouches and 18650 cells for sale - Perth WA

HI everyone, I've got stacks of leftover 18650 cells for sale. I'd buy 1000+ of them, build a battery and have like, 70 left over. Not enough to start a new project, but too many for a simple project. Red cells are Panasonic NCR18650BD cells (60 of them) - 3200 mAh and 3C continuous. $200...

jonescg's battery builds (historical reference - image heavy)

I've decided to put this thread together as my original thread was in the For Sale section, and it was quite reasonably deleted along with hundreds of other threads which were taking up space. So it makes sense to put the details here. Table of contents: My first electric motorbike battery -...

    Gazelle Chamonix conversion

Hi All, So I will be convering my wife's step-through Dutch bike (aka tall person's bike) to electric. She's got an electric ladies bike but doesn't ride it much as its not exactly a sturdy machine for longer trips. The Gazelle frame always suited her as she's quite tall, but it was never an...

    jonescg's cylindrical cell build thread

I've got a LiPo build thread in the for sale section which folks are welcome to check out - It's a long running study in the best (or rather, least worst) way of assembling a LiPo pack with multiple cells in parallel. I have recently started building battery packs using cylindrical cells...

    China trade difficulties?

Has anyone here on the Sphere had trouble buying stuff out of China? I've been given the root-around trying to buy some 63 Ah LG pouch cells from these guys: http://vodno.en.alibaba.com/ After sending them US$2424.40 back in June, they assured me the cells were on their way. 3 months later...

14s7p 18650 battery pack, potted. Australia.

I built this some time back but only just finished it. It's a 14s7p battery built using Panasonic NCR18650GA cells spotwelded with nickel. It's got fly-wires for a balance port, but I've left it in case a specific BMS is wanted. The battery has been potted in West Systems epoxy resin, so...

Cylindrical cells - How do you do your final terminations?

I recently re-packed an e-bike battery for a friend using 18650 cells, and while the hexagonal Kart kit was a dream to work with, the final terminations had me scratching my head. I ended up spot-welding the last parallel cells with excess tab and soldered heavier gauge wire to it - maybe 2.5...

Question for the Perth (Australia) e-bikers

Just curious as to how much battery you'd need for an e-bike capable of Perth Hills to Curtin uni and back (or charge at work). I'm keen to push for a sealed path which cuts through Mundy park and reduced the trip by at least 5 km. Gravity alone will demand 100 Wh worth of battery, so I'm...

Temperature and capacity loss in LiFePO4

https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0013468617306060 A very interesting read on degradation in the form of capacity loss at different temperatures. Interesting the nature of charging and discharging at different temperatures.

    Capacity testing 18650 LFP cells

Hi all, I need to capacity test about 100 LFP cells, and DCIR. I have some 4-cell testers but they are designed specifically for Li-ion chemistries like Li-NMC and Li-Co and take the cells up to 4.2 V. Does anyone know of a good option for LFP cells at 3.2 V nominal, and 3.65 V max?

    Wire Bonding machines

Has anyone here in the e-bike manufacturing world bought an ultrasonic wirebonder for terminating cells? It's a big ticket expense, so I'm expecting to only hear from larger e-bike manufacturers, but the company I work for is looking at buying one with a working area of about 500 x 900 mm. I'm...

Grid tie inverters and HV battery

Hi All, A question came up on another forum about testing battery packs. Lots of people will have a 100-400 V battery they would like to load test, but a decent load for a high voltage battery can be hard to come across. So the suggestion was to feed power into the grid using a solar grid-tie...
