    Adventures in Lipo Recovery

I have 4- 6s packs that I left hooked up in series to a lyen controller on my back-up bike for several weeks after a ride. They got down to less than 1v per cell. I had to bulk charge them above 2.5v at first because the HK eco 6 showed a low voltage error and wouldn't charge them. I have at...

Ever Been Pulled Over by Police on Your eBike?

Not yet, in over 10,000 miles of high speed urban commuting. They see me and leave me be :D However, that will change as e-biking becomes more common around here. All good things eventually come to an end...

    Kona Stab, 8T Mac, 20S A123 20AH

Excellent job on your 2nd build, a nice creative battery solution and I know it rides smooth too. It's good to have another high speed e-bike here in KC. - see ya soon...

Controller seems to be stuck in regen mode?

I checked with a meter and there are no shorts between phases. However, when green phase wire is disconnected the wheel spins normally.

Controller seems to be stuck in regen mode?

Thanks for the replies. Yes, the wheel has a notched feel when turning, but only when connected to the controller. It turns normally when disconnected. I disconnected the regen loop and it makes no difference, it still 'notches' when phase wires are connected to the controller whether the power...

Controller seems to be stuck in regen mode?

Here's the story - Was not able to program the regen on Lyen 18fet HV controller, it was set to engage whenever throttle was released. So, I disconnected the regen jumper and it worked fine - except no regen. Then I thought of running the regen jumper through one of my e-brake levers, it worked...

Looks good Ratking, weighs about the same as my green bike loaded w/ 24s 10ah lipo 86lbs. What's the wheelbase & rake angle?

    building ebikes for other people?

I just did a conversion for a friend a few weeks ago. I showed her what was available in factory-built bikes online and she decided to let me do a conversion on hers for less money. So far it is working great, but if it breaks, I am sure I'll be the 1st to know. - Mark

3rd build- Custom FS Longtail (New & Improved)

Thanks XLR8, There is no noticable flex, if I could get 3/32" I would try it. 1/16" would probably be too weak, because this is mild steel. The hardest thing is modifying a swing arm, I can't seem to be able to source suitable pivot hardware. So you need a donor swing arm. I'll post more pics...

    Stealthy lipo filled custom frame

It's hard to improve on the beauty & style of the stealth IMO, which is what I'm basing my builds on , except to make it thinner with a slightly smaller triangle(sacrificing capacity). I always ride on the streets and this latest build is turning lots of heads - I'm sure the cops are noticing...

    Lock and Key

John, is that a 2 positon switch that stays on when turned? where did you get it? I just got one that is spring-loaded like a car ignition switch, only paid $ 6.00 on ebay but it's worthless to me. Thanks

3rd build- Custom FS Longtail (New & Improved)

The rake angle was too slack and the frame shape too awkward and long. Also wanted to integrate easier access to batteries.

Custom frame production reaserch... (updated on pg 1)

Finding the balance between manuvering and handling like a bike and performing like a motorcycle is a tricky thing. Wheelbase & rake are critical.

Well, finally got the 2nd frame done. It handles alot more like my specialized, but rides like butter.

    Throttle wiring question

I am hooking up a 3-wire throttle, Red-White-Black to a infineon controller Red-Green-Black. Do I hook-up the white throttle wire to the green controller wire? I thought I read somewhere on here 'but can't find it now' that you have to hook it up as follows Throttle - Controller...

Strange lipo problem- 1/2 of battery weakening

Well, after charging individual cells across the balancer leads I was able to get almost all of them fully charged. And after running 2 cycles on 2 different sets of 24s2p, most of them stay balanced, I've probably ruined 5 or 6 packs. I think it was a combination of cold temperature and too...

Strange lipo problem- 1/2 of battery weakening

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I have been running 1p instead of 2p for awhile now and pull 5000 watts max. Thats only 10c discharge rate on 25c rated pack. It still seems strange that its always the 4th 5th & 6th cell that is going weak. Maybe it is the cold weather. I will go back to running...

Strange lipo problem- 1/2 of battery weakening

For the past month, I have noticed that all of my 6s batteries are getting weak on 1 side. Cells 1thru 3 charge up ok and cells 4 thru 6 are dying. I run 24s, and it seems the 1st and last battery in series discharge more than the middle 2. At first I thought it was because I was bulk charging...

    Hit my first pedestrian today...

Yeh, sounds like he was a 'b-turd' I have had several close calls on my rides and I think part of the problem is we are so quiet and people don't expect us to be going as fast as we are. My style of riding has changed alot - I try to stay in "survival mode" we have to be extra careful to save...
