    Bionx controller options?

Did anybody tried cormodes Arduino sketch? I've tried it with an old I2C Bionx motor, just for the fun, and the motor runs, but the speed control doesn't work for some reason. As soon as I enter anything other than 0 in the speed register, it goes fulls speed. As I don't have the display, I...

    found 1200 lumen bike light 12-80V $20.00

Can you take it apart and make some nice pictures in the process? I would like to know which LEDs are in there.

    First ride: that was weird...

Don't know why, but happened to me many times. I rode that flat stretch of road (30 miles) quite a few times on regular MTB, and usually I would arrive at destination exhausted, but I've never felt any leg pain or such. On regular MTB I was averaging 12-13mph. When I did same stretch of road...

    LED BIKE Lights - Skyray S6 V Magicshine 808

Why don't you try lowering PSU output voltage? Lamp should workd down to 6.0-6.5V no problem.

That's right. Switches in those lamps are low current momentary tactile switches, and as lamps are very nicely waterproofed I see no reason for them to fail.

It looks neat. Now you need to add remote handlebar switch so you don't have to bend down to switch it on/off, and you're golden.

    $29.99 CREE XML XM-L T6 LED(Magic Shine 808)

Single XM-L lamp draws about 0.8-0.9A at 8.4V, and up to 1.5A at lower voltages. Triple XM-L draws at least double that, if not 2.5 more.

    $29.99 CREE XML XM-L T6 LED(Magic Shine 808)

It will be piece of cake. Original battery will last anwhere from 30 to 60 mins on max, so by running your light from bike battery pack you don't have to worry about running out of light and you don't have to cary extra battery, which needs regular charging. And once you'll go out forgetting...

Well, the battery will certainly work, but it is no match for that triple XML current draw. You can buy adjustable DC-DC converter like this http://dx.com/p/low-ripple-90w-dc-4-5-60v-to-1-25-30v-adjustable-voltage-step-down-module-154647.

8.4V would be ideal. But basically, anything betwin 6.5-8.5V would do the job.

    $29.99 CREE XML XM-L T6 LED(Magic Shine 808)

Yes, DC-DC would do the job just fine. I've built myself one out of LM2576HV. Other parts were slavaged from broken ATX PSU, so they were free. I've made PCB myself, too. It has 60V max input voltage and 3A rating. Output voltage is adjustable from 1.2V to Vin-2V. Indeed, very good light for...

Original strobe was both too fast and too bright. Originally, it alternated between 100% and 0%. Now it alternates between 40% and 1%, so there is always light coming out the front, and it's not seizure-causing anymore.

    $29.99 CREE XML XM-L T6 LED(Magic Shine 808)

Well, it's difficult to get that on camera as it automatically adjusts exposure. So, by default modes are Hi->Lo->Strobe->Off. So, you're in Lo and road has opened up, there is no traffic, and you want to switch it to Hi. That means clicking three times, and going through Strobe and Off mode...

I've recently bought one of these XM-L lights, and they are good for e-bikes, if not a bit too narrow. Since they all got stupid Hi->Low->Strobe->Off modes, I've modded mine with Texas Instruments microcontroller, and now it's much more useable: ckRegtkneiE

Free TI brushless controllers (while they last)

I tottaly forgot about this, but my free samples arrived almost two months ago. I was really happy when I saw size of the box, but disappointed it only had four chips, no any board whatsoever. So, not much use for me, unfortunately.

Disaster waiting to happen in Zippy battery

Turnigy 4S hardacases usually separate easily, and most do on their own, under vibrations and being carried around. But, this Zippy 2S was sealed pretty well, we had to put in effort in order to take out one cell we needed. Since it was that much bother to take case apart, I'm sure it would...

Disaster waiting to happen in Zippy battery

In the pictures below you can see casing and one cell from Zippy Flightmax 5000mAh 20C battery: I don't know whether it can be seen clearly from the pictures above, but the casing is not processed properly after molding, so the protruding thingy left is pretty sharp, and it looks like it...

    broken fork

In my opinion, Reba is totally wrong choice for front wheel drive e-bike. RS Reba is a racing fork, and therefore it's light. They've used lightweight materials wherever they could, and as a result you've got light but fragile and flexible fork. Exactly what you don't want on e-bike :).
