    Bafang M500/M600 thread

Has anyone thought to ask Bafang through their public contact forms if they will develop an app to configure Torque support like the big manufacturers? If we all email them they might make the effort to provide this feature. They already have the Bafang Go App, and the interface is there it...

I just flashed 48V firmware onto a 43V motor it worked just riding around on test. I'll have to update later with more results when it gets ridden more.

  Well silly me. It's because I 'Right-clicked and Save-As' the file instead of clicking ont he file, and selecting 'download' through GITHub. Note the file actually downloads as "CRX10NC4810i142050.6-22-1768-20201109.bin" but it is 122kB, instead of 73kB. All the files open...

[SOLVED] Does anyone else have an issue with the firmware from the GIT HUB? https://github.com/OpenSourceEBike/Bafang_M500_M600/tree/main/Firmwares/Official/Motor/m500 I have tried opening each of the 48V M500 versions and BESST tells me they all have a bad header. [NOT SOLVED] Also I am...

Thanks Mate. Maybe I'll just give it a go. Could be an expensive lesson.

Yeah well I don't have a 48V motor. My first thought was they were the same but if Bafang say they are different they must be different. I'll give it a few days maybe someone here has tried it

Haha.. in an email from Bafang. I haven't seen it written anywhere but then again, there's lots of info about these motors that isn't published anywhere

Apparently the coil winding is different (so say Bafang).. I want to reload 48V firmware onto a 43V motor and then use a 48V battery so the battery level indicator is good. Not just use a 48V battery on a stock 43V motor.

anyone tried loading 48V firmware onto a 43V M600? apparently the coils are wound differently, just curious if anyone had "done it"

I thought Luna's controller was.supposed to be open source but none of the source material had been published.

Has anyone described the process to actually calibrate the torque sensor (like hang a 1kg mass from the pedal?)

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

Yeah I think I wrote about it a while ago. Trot 27 is Overcurrent in the controller. A reflash of firmware fixed it for a couple of months and it came back. Tried to repeat but the controller failed to respond at all. Replace controller. Bafang had no suggestions other than to send a new...

I actually agree with you.. BUT the firmware is not the same. The fact is that level 1 on the M600 gives you more "oomph" than level 1 on the M500 does. Sure if you had controlled conditions and pulled the same electrical power from each motor their efficiencies would be quite similar.. this...

No doubt about it, the m600 feels stronger. Is it awesome? Absolutely yes. Do you really need it? Not really.. I can ride up pretty much anything with the m500 and have plenty of fun and speed. I prefer the M500. But others who like to "level 5" all the way, might prefer the M600. It's really...

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

mate it's a bit hard to say.... it depends on so many things, in particular how much you pedal. with the M600, I go from 100% down to 35% after 25km pushing hard on the pedals. (enduro type single-track, tight, steep) with the M500 on the same 25km track, pushing hard on the pedals, I end up...

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

sure, but from a practical point-of-view, Level 1 for the M500 "DOES NOT EQUAL" level 1 on the M600. The M600 will use more power, because of the way it has been programmed to apply the available power.. For example, if level 1 is 20% for both motors, for the M500 that 20% might be 50W...

    Nope. M600 uses more power.

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

Quite the contrary, I have a Bafang M500 and 600. Not Luna versions but OEM versions and I think the stock firmware is awesome. Under normal conditions it feels the same to me as a Shimano or Bosch or Yamaha. They (the big brands) have advanced their firmware with fancy adaptive power settings...

Very cool, so like an AB Quadrature encoder? In a nutshell, it was a component failure. Thanks for doing that diagnosis and taking the time to explain. Merry Christmas Andy

Were the "part failures" actual part failures or mechanical issues (dry solder joint, failed wire connection etc) Diode failure is a worry (cheap parts).. Anyways excellent work Andy

If I recall from my micro Lebowski build I can't even buy the parts for $100Euro let alone the PCBs plus assembly. You'd need to make thousands of them to be cost effective. Isn't luna charging like $500 or something as an upgrade?.

    Bafang M500/M600 thread

You could build the VESC brain board and drivers and then customise the power stage to suit the application..that's what I was trying to do with the micro Lebowski controller that I designed using Lebowski's schematics...

They do have software integration but I'm pretty sure you can build your own battery should you choose. Kepler did. Among others.
