bbs02 - what size chainring for my commuter?

I'm sure you will :) I think the choice of 46 vs 42 will be more about a) whether it fits (chainstays flare out and larger front cogs will foul) b) whether your chain stays on rather than top speed

Lol, I meant "show your mph", not "show your mom". Everyone has already seen your mom. (Couldn't resist, sorry)

bbs02 - what size chainring for my commuter?

I'd choose the BBSHD if I were planning another bike, for the torque. That helps you get off the line at traffic lights and for a modest 2lbs is more future proof. The BBSHD bikes I've borrowed have been more fun. It would help get a higher speed too. Tbh that raleigh doesn't look like a bike...

Advice on ebike kit for 30 commute

BBSHD and BBS02 both work with normal frames, they are after-market and IIRC will both fit the same frames, pretty much. BBSHD will help keep you at 28mph better. On my setup, 28-30mph was the best I could get in a long straightaway with max pedalling effort. With taller gears and better road...

    BBS02 Cake -- FS mid-drive build, v2

With how I ride, I can get about 25 miles from my 16ah battery, and 15 with my 10ah battery. I've seen other people post BBS02 wh/mile numbers around 3x more efficient than that, so if long rides are your concern, I'm sure you can do better than this.

    BBS02 Cake -- FS mid-drive build, v2

Yep, still in use! The battery mount has held up like a champ. I have had to buy a few pairs of replacement lipos, but that is pretty cheap. My BB was 68mm. Kit install was easy, I needed a bling ring to avoid the swingarm (the larger stock gear would have fouled). The motor has kept up very...

    Commuter suggestion BBSHD vs MAC

I seriously doubt the BBSHD would cause an issue with Bus Racks. You can carry chain repair or even a spare chain. It's not a big deal to fix on the road. I had a MAC-12t and felt the BBS02 was a huge upgrade. Faster top speed, able to handle much steeper hills, and generally better Wh/mile...

    first build

I agree that TCO makes lipos less attractive. I spent $150 shipped on two 6s 16Ah multistars (cheap!) but $150 on a 12s charger + power supply for instance. And then more on other random things like connectors etc. I don't agree on the weight of 18650s vs multistars. If you use finished battery...

Folding 27.5+ wheel frame for 12s 1kw ebike

A mid drive will handle that hill better than a hub motor. If you can stretch that part of the budget for a bbs02, I think you'll be happier. The multistars are a fine choice, I actually recently ordered an extra pair of 16ah 6s when it went on sale. Waiting for a sale is the worst part! For...

At what wattage can 1200 wh of battery give me 60 mile range

Not sure you can or should use all 1200 Wh of your 1200 Wh battery... but using that number: 1200 wh / 60 mile range = 20 wh / mi. Seems doable. 500 watts / 20 wh / mi = 25mph. You need to keep you speed at 25 mph to achieve that range at 500 W continuous draw. 400 watts / 20 wh / mi =...

Help me with my first ebike purchase

I'm assuming caltrain or you would be looking for a small folder :) I'm also assuming you're commuting within the flat/pockmarked SOMA / downtown areas? I'd say that optimizing for weight is the only difficult constraint, you dont need mid drive or a big battery. It's pretty easy to build a...

    Recommendations for first ebike

My personal experience is buy quality or buy twice! That battery is not very powerful. Only 15A. Battery should be able to handle whatever your controller can draw. The battery I linked is 30A at least if Im reading it right Also you lose out on a nice case. Mounting that brick in a triangle...

    Recommendations for first ebike

You can figure that from wh/mile such as listed in this thread https://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=61167 25wh/mile would give you about 20 miles. 15wh/mile gives you 33 miles. I bet you could average either depending on throttle use! Look for some build threads using your...

    Recommendations for first ebike

Safe lockable removable and easy to add to lots of bikes. https://lunacycle.com/batteries/packs/48v/48v-panasonic-11-5ah-or-13-5ah-shark-pack/ You can go down the hobby lipo route and maybe save a few bucks but there are hidden risks and costs. 1000w...

Worth it to get a “premium” FS bike for ebike build?

If you are switching to BBSHD, you might want to pay a little more for good brakes, as you are losing the regen braking of a DD hub. Are you anticipating hills? Curious about your motor choice. Mid 30s is as much as I think you can expect I'll second the used bike recommendation. Good luck

Is an ebike for commuting and exercise reasonable?

The top potential speed will depend on the motor choice, voltage, gearing and tire size. Then the top actual speed depends on how much power the system can deliver to push against wheel/air resistance. A mid-drive motor will go through the bike gears and give you a wider range of speeds. In...

Is an ebike for commuting and exercise reasonable?

I am (or was) in the same boat. 18.2 miles. Took a little over an hour as opposed to two+ without a motor helping. I was still sweaty though, maybe because I have some hills 1300 ft up 1600 ft down. Unfortunately an idiot motorcycler took out my back wheel a couple of days ago so my steed is...
