How To Solder Your Own VESC!

Two VESC's assembled! Just need to get some headers/connectors and a programmer and im all set. Z5JQ0EgvMs8 Here's a timelapse of assembly, bit more me in it than I was planning and unfortunately my camera's battery died before I completely finished but it turned out well. close up of the...

How To Solder Your Own VESC!

The PCBs I got had those pads bridged, so the solder flowed into the area between and makes those two sets of pins bridged. As far as I know it should be fine (always double check the schematic though) I believe with the drv8302, that additional number is batch/manufacturing codes, although I...

How To Solder Your Own VESC!

Working on a couple VESC's for my upcoming rebuild, so far I have the MCU and motor driver on but for the rest of it I plan on taking a timelapse video of assembly. I've been using a hot air reflow station and a solder paste dispenser. unfortunately the dispenser is a piece of crap so ive gone...

About to order from NKON.nl - What to expect?

well, looks like nkon is shipping to the US again, 30 euro shipping through Fedex. I need about 60, which works out to around 4.75 a cell shipped.

any recommendations on where to get the Sanyo NCR18650GA cells in the US if nkon doesnt ship here anymore?

    JP spot welder

Hey, Can you put me down for a DIY kit shipped to the US? Can't wait to build a battery pack for my longboard and this will be immensely helpful.

3500-mAh NCA cell, Samsung, LG, Sanyo, Panasonic

Is there a peak discharge rating for any of these cells? Or is it a solid "dont go above 10A discharge" for these? Looking to build a battery pack (10S5P) for my longboard and as of right now these cells would be perfect for everything except the initial stall current/large acceleration.

Easy Addition of USB Charging for 6s

That adafruit charger is meant for single cell applications, its a boost converter and not a buck converter. Also 2.5A should be plenty fast for charging a phone.

Do you have any problem with the enclosure and the board flexing (even remotely?)

    Electric skateboard esc troubles (Fires)

im not saying that the hobby ESCs are garbage or the VESC is the only option. Stating the only way to overload an ESC is through improper gearing causing heat doesn't make any sense at all. Its missing the power aspect, you can have the wrong gearing and it will still work, its when you try and...

    VESC Humming!!

It's coil whine from the inductor. It's possible that the rest of the circuit the inductor is part of isn't stable anymore, causing the whine. The fact that the VESC doesn't work might mean one of the IC's "died" to the the point where it almost works but is functionally dead.

    Electric skateboard esc troubles (Fires)

Everyone here realizes that the ESC's we use are all built the exact same way right? an airplane ESC doesn't have a different FET configuration vs a car ESC......plus we extremely overload any ESC unless it's the VESC for the most part. These hobby ESC's are designed for vehicles weighing 10-30...

    Electric skateboard esc troubles (Fires)

its possible that you blew the ESC through too much current. While I wouldn't say the specs on these motors are dead on accurate, if we take the peak power of the motor (listed as 2665W, then at start up there is the potential to draw anywhere from 105.75A (at 4.2V * 6 cells) to 138.8A (3.2V * 6...

10S custom skate ESC: testers wanted!

I just ordered parts to build a couple V4.10 boards. Ordered 10 PCB's from Smart-Prototyping and enough parts to build 2 boards. ill post an update when I get the boards assembled (personal SMD workstation at home, awww yeah). If the boards work I might also build out the other 8 VESC's that I...

    Wireless Wii Nunchuck *TESTERS WANTED

Talk about quick response! i have a nyko kama nunchuck, Turnigy Trackstar 150A GenII ESC I've never really used cruise control, and I don't want to completely blame it (correlation not causation kinda thing). But the run up to the event was i tried cruise control and it worked for about a...

    Wireless Wii Nunchuck *TESTERS WANTED

Been awhile since anyone posted in this thread but this is worth mentioning: I have a wiiciever setup that has been working flawlessly for as long as I've had my board setup, until tonight. Seems there might be something wrong with the cruise control setup as I lost control of my board after...

Using a mosfet as a switch?

I'd turn my board off to charge, and I don't really want my board running all the time. I might build a board similar to the one in that other thread. Or at least manufacture some as I've got some other projects (custom BMS) that I'm working on.

    18650 10s3p battery

check out that image above, that gives a good diagram and picture of what dnmun is talking about. Preface: I'm an EE. I really like to know what's going on with my hardware, and if something breaks....I'm finding and fixing the problem, so I see where a lot of this is coming from. However if...

How to Make a Battery Protection Circuit

There's nothing inherently wrong with that setup, it just provides a low voltage cutoff (for really cheap) for projects that don't require huge amounts of power. You could probably even beef that up for a longboard setup, although at that point I would invest in a decent BMS.

    Custom Battery Packs? INTERESTED?

What kind of BMS units does everyone plan on using? My research into readily available ones hasn't turned up any decent one that won't fry/damage cells through just normal use. i.e. ~4.3V overvoltage cut off and ~2.4V under voltage cut off as an example. I have a plan to develop my own 6-10S BMS...

    First E-board Build - Lightboard

Looks like I've got the motor issue worked out, just need to use the mounting bracket that came with the motor and add some new properly spaced holes to that. Otherwise, the plan is to get the board up and running this weekend, and finally post some pictures. Here's the wiring diagram I made...

    First E-board Build - Lightboard

I got all of my parts! Started slowly assembling everything in between class. Looks like im going to have to either return my motor or figure out if an adapter plate can be made, the mounting bracket on the motor is 43mm and not 32mm like it said on HK's site which is very annoying. Also, what...

    Wireless Wii Nunchuck *TESTERS WANTED

Nunchuck is synced, it'll show that its receiving input (LED blinks whenever I hit C or Z) the throttle just doesnt work for whatever reason. I'll see about getting my hands on another wireless nunchuck soon. Update: Seems to be the nunchuck, wasnt working properly when trying to use with a...

I picked up the programming card for the ESC too, only a couple dollars extra and saves my trouble in the long run. Now im just waiting for packages to show up, the hobbyking order is going to be interesting, the shipping address is right except for the zip code, going to have to track that...
