I just ordered a Tacon 160 motor (http://www.hobbypartz.com/96m608-bigfoot160-5335-245kv.html) and now I'm looking for a cheap ESC to match it on a 6s longboard setup. I've found these options:

Can't seem to find the HK 150a esc in stock anywhere :(

I'm open to other suggestions, but which one do you guys think would run the best? Thanks!

Looks like a good start!

the FVT looks like an XERUN 120a clone. I have an XERUN i am testing and will let you know my feedback once i ride it around the block a few times.

I'd be cautious if you can't get a programmer for them. Adjusting brakes at least should be part of the plan. I got a CC XL2 to try and the brakes sucked. Not cheap, but i'm sure i'll find a use for it later. I will try it one more time w/ 100% brakes and see if it works better.

I finally ended up just buying the VESC and my first test ride last night - it was AWESOME! great smooth startup and brakes were predictable and usable. soooo impressed.

I forgot to mention that I might be able to get a XERUN 150a used for around $70. I'm thinking thats the one to go with, but I like to have alternatives.

So I went with the FVT 120a assuming that it was programmable without a card. However the manual doesn't mention how to enter programming mode, but does list programmable options. Any ideas? I don't want to have to buy the $20 programmer. I'm used to programming with throttle inputs and motor beeps.

The only way I know of programming the FVT 120A is with the programming card or the usb-link..

I used my first FVT without changing any of the default settings for a few months and it ran great. What would you like to change?

I'd like to set the braking to 100% and disable the reverse. Also might be wise to mess with the motor timing as well as the initial acceleration (punch)...guess I'm SOL without the card or usb linker.

How risky is it to give this one a shot?

The correct programmer looks exactly the same...

FVT and Favorite are the same. That should work. I don't suggest programming the brakes to 100%. They engage so abruptly and will probably throw you off the board.(I have first hand knowledge of this ) Try 60 or 70%, at first.
