I talked to him tonight. he had left Montreal in direction to Trois-Rivière.

He is supposed to arrive to Quebec tomorrow, probably tomorrow night.

I hope he will appreciate the visit and i'll prepare some place for him to sleep here.

I think we should leave Quebec on friday.

i'm still working on my ebike from dozens of hours.. to add some features like individual low voltage indicators.. rewiring all the 8 gauge and anderson connector to a better configuration.. and finally to sceal perfectly all electrical part of it even if we could meet some rain... but they Environment Canada predict suny days for couples of days!!.. until wednesday!!!

Goodnight everyone..

I'll keep you informed of any developpment! i'll take my friday off for having time to share with him!

He also will receive his new wheel to my adress...

Doc

Yep, too lazy to get my own ID! I often like to lay low, especially here where Justin deserves all the attention for the amazing trek he is on. Sure glad I was able to make his acquaintance. Can’t wait to drop a Cycle Analyst on my electric vehicles.

Say, how do you know about my "underground" experiments? Email me at Oneironaut at lucidscience.com - I am curious now!

Thanks for positive the comments!

Cheers,
Brad

Uh Oh... The forum reports that "KoolKat" is online...

Brad... If you only KNEW what you had started :) Get your own ID - hiding behind Kathy isn't fair :)

Everyone else who may be thinking, "wha?"... I bought two of Brad's books and three sets of plans through his website. A whole new creative spark (arc?) has been ignited, here, and indirectly attributable to Justin's raising my awareness of what Brad does. I was only peripherally aware of "Atomic Zombie" prior - so, this is another example of how Justin's odyssey has connected people.

Of course, I'm told that what Brad can do to a core sample (think mining and minerals, here) is a whole other story...

Well, temperature in Quebec City http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/71714.html seems a few degrees colder than here in Ottawa, and we had frost temps last night in Ottawa, so...

I suspect Justin's amd DoctoBass's fingers may be too cold to type, or they're having too much fun or both. :)

its getteing a bit cool out these days I bet justin is wishing he had set out a few weeks earlyer.

Maybe his next controller revision should include mosfets mounted to a heatsink that is worn under a jacket? No point wasting needed heat!

Of course, a silicon meltdown could be ugly!

Careful with the drugs Doctor Bass.

*********UPDATE*******

Hello all, We are still in Quebec and should leave this afternoon in direction of La Pocatière at 170km from here.

Justin and me worked alot on our ebike to repair, ameliorate and solve some problems.

It is a great weather here and we will enjoy the sun for the bigining of our trip. I'll the go back to Quebec on monday after visiting few old teachers and nice people i know at La Pocatiere.

Here we solved my C-A problewm and i think justin loved to try my bike at 100V and doing some test with the C-A parameter to learn more about the parameter when used with powerfull setup. I think he appreciated the days he was in Quebec. I'll let him to to share that with you update more than do.

We still didn't received his wheel from ottawa to my home. Probably it couls arrive on monday that is a bit late for waiting to taht time before to go so will will leave quebec today. He have one spoke broken and i will give him the brand new wheel i had with my mongoose that i replaced for a hub motor and that is now unusefull for me. it is a 36 spoke so it should hold the rest of the trip.

i'll post some pics we took soon.. i promiss!.

Well.. now i think it's time to go! we should be on the road for 8 or 9hour until we arrive tonight at our destination. We will probably stop for charging at half the trip close to Montmangy at 80km from Quebec.

NOTE: I agree Justin is a REALLY NICE GUY TO MEET !!!!! :D

Doc

What was wrong with it? My CA text fades away above 90v and reads wrong at that high voltage... was the 5v bus being pulled low? I'm looking for a way to fix mine also. Thanks for the report.

Not to worry, I've escorted him away from doc's place and down to the ferry...

Ok Justin its been a while, whats the latest? you didnt get lost some where did you? lol just kidding guess people are getting abit conserned when they havent had any updates.

Yes, that too but also consider that he may be resting in places without wi-fi or other internet access. He's seeing a lot of trees and rocks.

This thread and a couple of the build threads are my favourites because they're like serial installments of a good yarn. They show progress and the conclusion can be anticipated but not without plenty of surprises along the way.

There are longer lived and more active threads that never progress. There is no conclusion. They get to be more like a science fiction soap opera and a good yawn.

But I'll tell you, if I'd spent 54 days on a bike I'd probably not be much interested in logging on for anything other than necessary logistics vital to the immediate future. There's such an abundance of real life when you're on the road that the whole internet thing seems kind of irrelevant.

Yeah, we need an update here.. he has to be close to NB by now ?

Hi everyone and sorry about the long lapse. I admit I've logged on a few times over the past week only to be so overwhelmed with the number of new posts that I didn't even know where to start! so I did my emails instead

Anyways, I crossed from Quebec into New Brunswick this morning. The towns are all still very french though, I just love it. By the end of tomorrow I should be in Fredericton, then Moncton the day after that to visit YPedal, and then it's only just 2 more days of cycling to hit the full Atlantic coast in Halifax. There I dismantle my ride, box up the important bits and hopefully hop on a nice train ride back to Vancouver. It's crazy to see the end literally on the horizon.

I still have many many things to share about this trip before it all wraps up and am going to make that a priority. The logistics of getting internet access have been a bit complicated but I have a whole bunch of draft blog entries on my computer from working offline, and it should only take a couple days in a nice cozy internet cafe to get it all posted.

Right now, shivering behind a motel outside of Perth-Andover while typing with gloves and a toque on, the sounds of a cozy internet cafe is very appealing!

Tell me about it. This morning when I got to me ebike to start the day's treck, the wheel wouldn't budge at all, it was frozen solid! I had to thaw it out before it would spin and I could get going. I'd been meaning for a while now to open up the hub motor and see if there was water inside which would explain why the hall signals were acting up. Well, no need to do that any more, I can be pretty sure there is water in the hub.

Frost.jpg

The motor did thaw much faster than my poor toes at least. After a freezing night in the hammock those didn't warm up until about 4 in the afternoon. BRRRR it is cold out here. Whatever happened to the 30 degree prairie summer I was just riding through? OK ok that feels like eons ago. I guess not only am I riding across the country, I'm also riding across the seasons and better get used to it. Dr. Bass saw that I got a full winter balaclava for night riding and that makes quite a difference at keeping the head warm. I have 2 layers of gloves for the hands, but I still need something good for the feet.

I've been balaclava'd at night for two weeks and it was none too soon.

2 layers !

Regular socks + thermal socks + pedalling when needed work OK for me on feet. Beyond that, I'd guess you need a fairing, heat canisters or resistor socks, or at least a hot front hub motor or controller etc. to hover or rest them on.

So, ETA for end of trip is Saturday ? Cool... (literally, though understated). :)

Hi Justin

Good to hear from you again!! was wondering where you had got to, looking at the map you are so close! cant wait for the full update along with more pictures and stories, also didnt Doc take some pictures and video? think we all need a fix :)

I know what you mean about your feet, I had the same problem when I was riding through the winter, I got some heated insoles that were battery powered and rigged them up to my bike via the DC-DC converter, they are great and at times my feet got too hot, you only need about 10 watts to make a real difference, the problem is if you start off with cold feet they will stay cold, I would always get my feet as hot as I could stand before I went out, wind proofing your shoes will also help oh and dont over tighten your laces as this restricts the blood flow.

Even at this time of year just a couple of hours in the saddle is enough for your feet to start getting cold, good luck with the rest of your trip keep us all posted it will be great to watch the closing stages of this amazing journey.

Cheers

Knoxie

Thanks for the up date Justin I think we all needed our fix. I said it once and ill say it again What the hell am I going to look for on the net when this trip ends? lol Glad to hear you are doing good with the exception of the obvious. ride safe and try to keep warm.
