Cycle life tests of High Energy density cylindrical cells

Yes, you got me :) Maybe such small explanation on table jpg? Which is already travelling through internet alone and some people will be confused ;)

Small update in N38+F40 post. I have added some new informations in the Table. Added temperatures measured without forced air (I just turn off the thermal chamber after conditioning the cells to 25°C, so it acts as isolated box with 100l volume of air. There could be further confusion here :), as modern best HE cells handle 3C continuous discharges just fine. No they don't.

Also added results of EVE INR18650 35V which seems to be also a decent cell. Cycle life tests started today.

After switching to the new version of the ES forum, I noticed a limit of 10 images per post. Unfortunately this now restricts me enough to move or add the new results to the first posts of the thread :oop:

small update:

Managed to get the image per post limit back from 10 to 20, so I was able to do some editing in the first 4 posts of this thread. The basic idea is to make the data display clearer. So I tried these modifications:

- data are now categorised by format (18650 and 21700 data in separate graphs)
- removed nominal capacity "dots" after each 50 cycle from the graphs.
- capacity (vertical) axis now have different scale! (18650 ends at 4Ah, 21700 ends at 6Ah)

News:

added more results from 100% DoD cycling (this test settings will also get its own table in near future)
Vapcell N36 and F36 will be added soon

small update:

more cycles with Vapcell 18650 cells, but more interesting news, Vapcell recently announced a 21700 F60 cell with 6000 mAh. Samples are already on their way to me. :)

I didn't even know Sony had something like that. If it's available somewhere, it's no big problem to add it to the tests

Currently not easy to get, easiest way is to buy a Makita BL4040F (F is important) pack and extract cells, it has 10 of them. That is it for now but I hope it will soon be available on the free market.

hi. a friend tested 50s and T50 from vapcell - 2nd should be purple ones- revision 1 because lower cycles. he has a special tester. not allowed to say. he does the test fast not in..... 6 months:).
i also love your tests.

more cycles with Vapcell 18650 cells
I don't understand how you get 1000 cycles above 80% 100% dod for example for M36- not realistic. UFO cells.
In LG M36 datasheet - > > > 4.1v 0.3C - 0.5C discharge - around 80% at 1000 cycles. meaning 2-300 CYCLES REAL.
3x life from 90% charge + bonus from 0.5C discharge not 1C.

100mah cut off. Chinese voltage is not the same i know. in reality maybe you charge them at 4.15v - still not the same as they state.

200 cycles real yeah sure 😅
Cmon it is not 2010 anymore...

My samsung s35 14s5p is down to 75% capacity after 4 years and 350 cycles.. this is the reality of normal real life usage.
THANKS!!! And Samsung 35E, right, can do 300 cycles to 80%.... so there is no such thing as 1C 1000 cycles for cells that cost 2-3$.
That is lifepo4 LEVEL.

nisam ginekolog ali mogu pogledati! :D

you are doing something wrong with those batteries, that is certainly not normal.
I take very good care, charge to 90% at 25 c temp. I do ride it uphill in alps with avg 15A, peaks to 30A. Motor gets got, battery to normal 35c. Well now battery heats more, to 50c due increased internal rsistnace. Sag is 7V at 30A. Used to be 4 V. The end is near I suspect.

Jebiga 😕

You should start with this info... :)

added more cycles for Vapcell cells and first 150 cycles for Tenpower 50ME at 100% DoD in 21700.
You just show the same tests- same method.
He even said he charges them at 90%...
Maybe you should charge them at 4.25v or something to simulate real life.
WHO does 1C - 0.5C ---2.5V??????? Super low! And get 1000 cycles at 80%. UFO cells.

My friend also tested NMC CATL 180ah and got 350cyles. 1800c 0.2C- at DOD 90% you can get 5000 cycles.

small update:

We can see the phenomenon of sudden death with two competitors, Vapcell N40 and EVE 35V at 100% DoD. About the result of N40 I have perhaps only a nationalistic remark sounds like "Thank God they still have something to improve in China". But still, the overall performance of the N40 is impressive.

This week arrived F60 in 21700, initial nominal capacity test shows 5945mAh @ 21,1Wh, will be added to cycle life soon.

also updated "Table" results for 100% DoD
