I got accepted into the MG&E vehicle charging research and demonstration project today. Since I got accepted into the program they are going to pay for my charging for three years. Because of that I'm going to pull the trigger and do the Dune Buggy build.

I’ve estimated that the savings from being in the project for three years will pretty much pay for the conversion. I’ve seen some nice Adaptor Plate & Shaft Couplers out there like this one.

As far as batteries I have considered doing a hybrid and don’t want to rule that out but it’s not my preference. I'm shooting for a 65 mile range. I’d rather invest that money in a larger battery pack. I'd like to do Lithium-ion.

FranG has just finshed a 'dune buggy build' might get some ideas from that?

Best of luck

Do you have a frame ?
I have the entire dune buggy. I picked it up for $500. It wasn't running at the time buy I got it going. It is street legal and I have it licensed and titled. Hopefully I'll get some picks up in a couple of weeks.

I was trying to find some of Frank's videos and I can't find anything! His website and Youtube channel is down. Has anyone heard any news about him? :|

Yes...Frank has had to take the threads and his website from the net while certain legal matters that have arisen are sorted through. Unfortunately neither will likely be returning due to related "life changing" events. Sorry i can't be more specific.

That really sucks...I hope he's ok. He's been one of the people I have followed the progress of for about as long as I have been pursuing EV stuff.

Archive.org doesn't have anything newer than 2008, which means a lot of useful information may be gone forever. :(

Frank is in very good health nothing wrong there (well...his eye site aside of course)
it is indeed very very sad that the info might be lost, i'm hoping something can be done, at least about theworkshop.ca
in the future as it is literally yeeears of Franks work, the metal casting info alone is invaluable.

For example, what would it take, cost, whatever, to have his website put on a forum, such as this, and archived, both as a learning feature, and a tribute to him, doing what he does with limited vision ??

Surely it would be something worthwhile ??

Just asking ?? :)
