Hi folks

This 700w kit is quite cheap, anyone got any experience with them?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ELECTRIC-BIKE-KIT-48V-60V-700W-BRUSHLESS-NEW-UPGRADED-MID-CHAIN-DRIVE-MOTOR-/131599453004?hash=item1ea3f04b4c:g:Ld8AAOxy5rpSTvvM

The bafangs, being 250w don't appeal to me much, although the 500w version might be okay.

Cheers, I found this kit on the GNG website:

Anyone here owned and use one?

I might not be converting the currencies properly, but from memory a BBS02 750W could be about the same money (delivered).

From the same supplier, the GNG 700w kit is 335ukp:

The 750w Bafang is 450ukp:

Cheers for the link, I'll go look at what others have experienced with this kit.

I've had some experience with both a GNC unit and several Bafang crank drives. At this point I would neither purchase nor recommend the GNC unit unless it has undergone significant improvements in the last several years. The poor quality of the GNC units is, I believe, what led to Lightning Rod's development of a very nice high power crank drive, primarily for off road enthusiasts.

Anyway, while the GNC unit was a great hill climbing unit, it was large, heavy, noisy, and had exposed belts and chains. I gave the entire bike, battery, and GNC unit to a loner/survivalist type relative before moving to Eugene and haven't been in touch with him since.

On the other hand, I love riding my tadpole trike equipped with a 48V 500W BBS02. I've had some of the common early issues, Display and Controller failure and lack of grease, but the last two years have been trouble free on both of my units and my sister's unit. EM3EV is a reputable and helpful dealer for the Bafang crank drives.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :D

Cheers Rassy, that's the type of feedback I was seeking.

It did occur to me that having one of these units with it's exposed chain drives mounted on a bike was reminiscent of old motorcycles from the 1920s and earlier when they were basically bicycles with little motors bolted on.
