What does the BMS use those data for?

I'm surprised it doesn't read them directly in order to tell the user, rather than the other way around.

Do they update the "library" as new cells come on the market?

Checking with the manufacturer now regarding the first question. I agree that it should be easy for the user. Regarding the second question, Orion has a software update that I need to download. My particular 18650 cells may be in the update (hopefully).
