MEXICO CITY — The magnitude 7.4 earthquake that rocked the southern Mexico resort of Huatulco killed at least 6 people, damaged hundreds of homes and four archaeological sites and temporarily cut power to more than 2.4 million people, authorities said.

The quake that struck at 10:29 a.m. (11:20 a.m. Eastern) also caused a brief fire at an oil refinery in the Pacific coast city of Salina Cruz.

At least it's not *quite*as hot here yet, but it's already been at least a few to several degrees over predictions, in the actual city itself rather than just at the airports/weather stations.

In my riding around the last few days trying to get someone to sign off to let me go back to work (a nightmare there isnt' enough server space to post about), I had temperature readings of the sensor on the bottom of the trike, a few inches from the road surface, of 140F+, when stopped at a traffic light. The one on the handlebars, in the shade of the canopy, was anything from 115F to 120F. And it felt hotter than that. Supposedly temperatures were in the 110F range and below.
