The folks at Light Electric Vehicle Association recently solicited opinions from ebikers as a survey about interests and wants etc... Only about 157 respondents so I'm not sure how statistically significant their results are.

Two-thirds of respondents were from North America (and I'll guess mostly USA.) About 90% of respondents were split evenly as either owning ebikes, selling ebikes or have ridden ebikes... Anyway, I have attached the pdf of results here.

While most of the survey were multiple choice so easily summarized and charted they also asked one narrative question "If you could make one improvement to electric bikes, what would it be?" that they did not try to summarize, but did list the 142 responses that were given...

LEVA only had this to say about these comments:
"I know this is a pretty long list, but you can see some of the same items over and over in this order (most first): bike design improvements, weigh less, longer range, more power, less price, better reliability and better user interfaces."

I did actually "crunch" these responses and I got:
24% want a lighter ebike
16% want better range on one charge
13% want ebikes to be "cooler"... better accepted... better styling
12% want more power for acceleration and hill climbing

These four categories above account for 2/3 of all responses...
and
9% wanted better ergonomics
8% want better reliability

I ended up with 13% not classified, including a few requests for regen braking, better instruction on care and feeding, fast charging, solar charging etc.

Interesting to note that 50% of respondents said they were prepared to pay $2000 or more for an ebike...
