On a never-ending quest to build the lightest, stealthiest, most efficient and most reliable ebike at minimum expense, I'm looking for a brushless hub motor weighing no more than 3 kg/6.5 lbs. I plan to use this for another bottom bracket drive.

This is the list of possibles so far:

Tongxin aka Nano around 2 kg
Thinkar aka Nuergy, Tarn around 3 kg?
Suzhou Bufang aka BF, 8FUN around 3 kg?

I've just about ruled out the Tongxin motor due to recently reliability issues, although older versions seem to have given good service. Can anyone tell me of good sources for the other two motors or give any feedback on noise level, reliability, weaknesses?

It surprises me that schwinn can use tongxin, does anyone know if they have a proprietary controller, is it a sensorless brushless motor or are they using one with hall effect sensors. I really wish I could get a reliable tongxin. The one I have is terrible.

Rob aka freddyflatfoot is using a BF motor in his trike

Not sure if it's the same motor you're talking about, but from the sounds of things it's great.
