Methinks some (no doubt unintended) big-wheel chauvanism happen' here! If you intend running smaller wheels with the BBS then having a 5-arm crank (130mm BCD) is about the only way you can fit larger, easily available, non-custom-made chain rings.
My own experimentation suggests that, for the 250W/36V you need:
- 56T for 406/20" wheels
- 60T for 359/16" wheels.
For many who are looking for a small-wheeled bike that can actually be ridden fast (as opposed to simply acting as a scooter), keeping up with the motor speed (pedal assist or throttle) will be a major issue with the stock 46/48T rings. This seems to me to be an excellent reason for having a '5 arm' spider option!
