Surly LHT front wheel drive

One of these would be easier to access...

It just has a cardboard sleeve...

You'd have to make a waterproof box for it, but it's pretty small...

If you could fit something like this on, it'd be much safer...

Or even a plunger pot.

Hey, what motor is this again?

Is there a freewheel in the driveline that lets you coast w/o the motor spinning, or is it direct drive?

How necessary, in your opinion, is the freewheel? ie Would the system work without it? I'm building a moped conversion with an HXT 80-100-B ..

I'm using v-pulleys and chain, yes - keeping it simple. I'd like for folks to be able to do the same to their mobies with relative ease - a bolt on conversion, if you will!

Regarding the freewheel - Karen's bike uses a centrifugal clutch / variable diameter pulley on the rear (1/2 of a CVT system from the original drivetrain) and a fixed pulley on the front. As a result, she doesn't have a "freewheel" per se, but I think would be able to walk the bike around without the motor turning. Also, on take off, the clutch will be providing some slip, reducing starting current or at least damping it somewhat. However, the rear pulley will always be trying to change ratios...

I would think that a freewheel would be ideal for maximizing range, but am not sure how to incorporate one into my bike's driveline.

Do you find yourself coasting very often?
