What gauge wire should I be using on my evg ebike 24v positive from battery to controller? I am making my own battery pack. Would 12ga be correct? Thank you.

12ga should be fine

for that application

Voltage doesn't matter (except for insulation type and thickness).

Wire gauge needed depends on the current you intend to pull thru the wires (remember, both your positive and negative have to be the same gauge).

What is the current limit on your controller?

I do not know what the current limit is.
It is a stock heinzmann 500watt motor.
I am new to this ebike scene.

I have attached photos of the info on the motor if that helps.
The main wire off the motor looks to be around 14ga, so I figured 12ga would be safe for the battery pack wiring.

Thoughts?

Thank you for your help.

12g should be fine, but I seem to remember some 10g on my EVG. That was inside the sla battery pack.

12 plenty imo, and easier to fit to some connectors, such as Anderson 45 amps or the smaller rc bullet connectors.
