where to get trued in Brisbane Australia?

Hey guys,
I have a hs3540 in a 26 rim and due to a mix up when i purchased it it came built but not trued.

I'm having a nightmare of a time finding somewhere in Brissy to get it done and was wondering if anyone can recommend anywhere?

So far i have tried 3 cycle shops in the Toowong area and they all have the same reply, that it is to wide for their stand. So i called a few motorcycle shops and they can apparently only do wheels up to about 23inch.... So i found a wheel building specialist shop, he said maybe, but will cost $70 if it even fits :-/

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great. Otherwise might have to be sent back down to Sydney which would suck.

Edit: Also just found and tried Elecrobikes in Woolloongabba, no luck there either :-(
Cheers

Who the hell sells a wheel built but not trued?

$70 sounds reasonable to fix someones stuff up? That's only about an hour and a half anyway. Freight to and from Sydney will eat that much.

Wheel stands should all handle 135mm wheels so how wide is this thing of yours?

As far as I understand my wheel was built in a batch but then somehow was forgotten when it came to truing them all. They have offered to cover freight back and forward to Sydney or to cover cost if i can get it done up here so i'm still a happy customer.

$70 seems a bit much since the lbs only charge $25 for a true on a normal pushy wheel. I have it all off the bike and its built and ready to go so should be a pretty quick job.

I'm not 100% on why it doesn't fit the stands, I will look into it further and really should have asked to see, but three lbs all took to their workshops with doubt and came back saying the same thing. to wide...

For $25 in an LBS you'll get 15min by somebody on work experience.

I think they've taken 1 look at it and realized it was a pig that was going to come back to bite them on the bum. Under the circumstances, I wouldn't touch it for any amount of money.

Just send it back to Sydney and, if anything happens in the future, they can't weasel out of responsibility, you hope.

I found when I did go to bike shops in Brisbane to get wheels laced & trued the jobs were never done right. For some unknown reason most bike shops dont know understand you cant do 3 cross pattern on large hubs and I had spokes fail all the time. In the end I looked up youtube and watched as many videos as I could and now do it myself. I always have a spoke wrench on my kit so when I hear a loose spoke I tighten it up on the go.
Sorry I can't recommend a shop as I just could not find one.

I had a problem with my rear wheel and gave truing a go- it doesn't seem as hard as is often said. Since then I found a book that is highly recommended. The Bicycle Wheel by Jobst Brandt (ISBN 360336386924). I found some reasonably priced copies in the US (ebay and second hand book sellers), then a quick google search brought up a copy on one of eMules servers (share island), and one on a Rapidshare link.

Hey icekreme1002,
I spent lots of money at bicycle shops truing wheels until I finally got tired of wasting money and gave it a go.
and guess what it was not even hard, now I am going true crazy truing all the wheels in sight. (just learned yesterday.)

Check out this video and do it yourself, you will need to invest in a truing wrench.

edit* I use the bicycle as the wheel stand and flip the bike upside down and use the brake pads as a guide. You can use what ever you like even a screw driver.

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys.
I have organised to have it sent back to Sydney so someone with a bit of experience can get it right. In the meantime I will get a spoke tool and watch every vid I can on truing so I can keep it in top shape when it returns.

Cheers again guys

You really should give it a go by yourself.

A few links here I just copied and pasted from another post of mine, some may not be relevant..but it realy is an easy procedure. Even with a bike fram unpside down, some sticky tape and a steel ruler taped to the frame to measure run out

A mate took my bike 200 yards the other day..hit a speed bump at 40 mph and put a flat spot in it. Sorted it this afternoon in about 35 minutes.
let air out of tyre, pushed tyre and tube to one side, straightened the dent with a hammer and a flat steel. and trued it back again all with wheel still in frame and bike on two leg stand.
I had never done a wheel before January just gone, and ended up building my own, and as one of the other posters said, I am now trueing every wheeel in sight for the practice/ pleasure of it
