hello,

I'm planning to buy some moped tyres for my cargo bike.

I've never had some, so I'm just doing some sanity check.
1. The bike is a 20" Cargo bike with a rear Leafmotor 1000W DD:

2. The rim is a BMX 40mm wide one:

3. The tyre is either a shrinko SR714:

Or a Mitas B8:

Would this combination work? and which tyre would be best?

I'm using the Shinko myself, 2.5" version, on the rear wheels of SB Cruiser, and it works fine for me on my similar width rim. It does not fit perfectly (doesn't seat on the edge until the tube is inflated, and i have to do some fiddling to get it perfectly centered as I inflate it), but it's easy to get on and off (only had to do this to work on the wheel itself, swapping a smaller motor out for a bigger one).

I keep them at 35PSI, and ride up to 20MPH (the limit here). The trike itself is probably over 300lbs, plus my 180lbs, not including any cargo or dog I carry back there right over the rear tires (100-150lbs for a dog, anything up to 300lbs+ for cargo so far).

Most likely the Shinko will fit your rim fine, but the only certain test is to actually install it. Different rims have different bead seat diameters, so various tires will fit different rims in different ways.

As a caveat: I don't know if my rim type is a "bicycle" (BMX) rim, or a moped/motorcycle rim, as I got them from Ypedal who'd gotten them from Zero as spare parts for an old model of the Zero electric motorcycle.

I think my rim has a lot taller wall than the one you link to; not sure what difference that will make.

I've never seen the other tyre or even that brand, so no opinion there.

Thanks great. THanks for the detailled explanation.

I'm going to buy that now.

I've realised that in the UK I can't have the shinko at decent price. I'll get another similar size moped tyre.

Hopefully it will work.

Keep you posted.
