Its a 20inch motor
I briefly connected it to a 36v battery and low power cheap controller..20A
Nothing rubbing or touching on the outside of the motor.
Any ideas what it could be? Would faulty halls cause that type of noise? It does the 5 hall sensor connector and all are plugged in.
I tried different phase combinations but no luck.
Thanks in advance!!

Update..I found the problem

I'm guessing its a geared motor, have you tried making it spin in reverse?

I could try...the controller has self learn wires so i could find the reverse combination

Would a controller cause this type of sound or do you think its definetly mechanical damage inside?
Im not using the controller that came with the motor

So what was the problem? How about elaborating on it to educate everyone else?

When OP had solved the problem and want their thread deleted, you can bet the problem was a stupid mistake. :D

Yes it was a dumb mistake..the disc rotor screws were touching on the inside of the motor

It could be that the wheel only made that clunking noise when laid on the side.

Its was a dumb mistake...the rotor screws were touching the motor on the inside...too long

Ahh yes,, I've done that too. In my case the motor was just locked and would not turn at all.
