(One might assume the bike was being ridden at the time of the "accident".)

I live in Missoula Mt, and I have to say that our Gold rating as a bicycle friendly community is pretty spot-on. There are bike paths on almost all major roads, a nice riverside trail that goes through town, and biking is generally very popular so there's tons of bike racks for locking up and bike shops, etc. The continental divide trail passes close to here, which is pretty epic and awesome.

The only drawback is the winter. Minus 50 points for that! Anyone know if there are snow chains for bike tires?

VISTA (CNS) - An investigation was underway into the death of a 48-year-old man who was struck by a Sprinter train while bicycling outside of Vista -- the third death involving a train in the North County in less than a week.

Witnesses told investigators the man was riding east on South Santa Fe Avenue at Woodland Drive shortly after 8 p.m. Monday and crossed onto the tracks about 40 seconds after its crossing gates had lowered and its lights and bells had been activated, sheriff's Deputy Jeffery Houser said.

Houser said that the Sprinter operator had sounded the train's horn as required before reaching the intersection and vehicle traffic in the area had stopped. However, the bicyclist continued onto the tracks.

The train's operator applied its emergency brake but could not avoid striking the man, according to Houser.

Responding medics and deputies attempted to revive the man, and he was taken to a hospital by ambulance, Houser said.

The rider was declared dead at the hospital, Houser said. His Name was not immediately available.

The man's death was the third involving a train in five days.

A 22-year-old man was struck and killed by a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train while trying to cross the tracks near the intersection of Grand Avenue and State Street in Carlsbad Village at about 11:20 p.m. Thursday, sheriff's officials said.

Another man was struck and killed by a northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train while sitting on the train tracks in Encinitas early Saturday. Sheriff's officials said the 40-year-old victim in the apparent suicide on the combined passenger-freight tracks in the 900 block of South Coast Highway 101 near West H Street had been holding his head in his hands and looking downward prior to being struck.

Stockholm

There was a note in the news of an accident on a walk-and bike path on a suburb of the capital. Stating that and adding it as a non-registered veichle adds to its suspicion that it was an ebike. Motorcycles don't use the sidewalks and especially not at speed am I right? Have you also found and read about accident in your neighbourhood like this? This was a hit and run accident on a 3 year old. :|

Police now releasing a vehicle description in a hit and run in Niagara Falls that has left a boy with serious injuries.

Officers are looking for a newer looking grey SUV style vehicle, possibly a Ford Escape or Edge with roof racks.

It may have some front end damage.

At 9:30 last night a boy was hit while riding his bike on Portage Road near Marineland.

He was struck from behind by a vehicle and thrown a considerable distance, sustaining significant injuries.

Witnesses watched as the vehicle made no attempt to stop and immediately fled the area.

(The vehicle operator stayed, apparently. Only vehicle fled scene.)

there have been two separate cases of cars running over pedestrians here in portland. in one case on the opposite sidewalk from direction of travel of the car, and the other on the day before yesterday the victim was sitting in a bus stop shelter. i think that makes 8 pedestrians not in the street or crosswalk, in the last few years here in bike friendly city. the most egregious was a little 6 year old playing in her yard 75 feet from where the car left the roadway. these people don't even slow down when they fall asleep. that's what i meant about troy. fuckin lucky imo.
