Hyena's e-bike builds (now with HD video)

Actually her first comment was "I like the colour better than your other one". So that's the first hurdle over :p

I got it for too good a price to pass up. The suspension felt very stiff and generally crap when I test rode it but a quick fiddle of the dials and it's much better. The front forks barely moved and the rear shock had like 1" of travel. It has 100 cycles on it and the inner city owner said it's never been off road which I'd believe from the condition of it and the hard suspension setup.
Not sure if I'll keep it for myself or give it the hyena upgrade treatment with the view to on sell it and dump the money back into the R&D fund for my own frame design. I do like the look of the stealth but I have to get the master plan into action sooner or later

I dunno Alex, your bomber ain't exactly a low powered, battered piece of junk :p
It's been a good 2 years since I built my last fighter, plans are different for 2.0. Know anyone selling an adaptto ?
I had to laugh when the guy I bought it off said "I dont really think these are meant to take offroad" and seemed shocked when I suggested I'd take it on some rough mountain bike trails. With the rock hard suspension set up maybe he never knew what it was capable of!

I still can't ride because of my back but fortunately I live in the bush so over my back fence is the perfect place to shoot a few pics of the stealth in it's intended habitat :) There's a few more in the stealth thread but this is my favourite that I snapped yesterday in the late afternoon sun

What a weirdo! He goes out and buys number one offroad E-bike and thinks that it does not belong in the bush?
Actually I think I could trade my stock bomber for a new fighter.
I am almost out on the controllers, so some better hurry

NIce Jay, I figured you couldn't stay away. I plan on building and having other ebikes, but I willl always have a Stealth in the stable.

Jay, I just made this video, I am dedicating it to you for getting another Fighter, and until you are healed up and riding :p . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItGLqH7Jq3k

Another sweet vid Rix! Such a different landscape you have there! I like your long shots where you go flying off past then off into the distance, that's the sort of shot I can't really do anywhere around here as the terrain just doesn't allow it.

My back is still giving me a heap of trouble but I've ducked out for a few sneaky rides. No high speed stuff though and if I was following the doctors orders I would never throw a leg over a bike again. I see the specialist again in a week and hopefully can then start discussing treatment options (still doing tests now to find out exactly wtf is going on) but he said from the most recent results that my bones are so weak I'm lucking I didn't break both my legs and hips when I did my back
So yeah, that makes for some pretty high stakes riding every time I head out :|

I've just returned from a long weekend away at on a friends property down the coast and I did take the bike but was going pretty easy. I'll have to come up with some new ways to make interesting videos if high speed and action are out, but in the mean time I'll switch to stills :) I took a mountain of photos which I'll post over the next few weeks once I've had time to go through them all. I did get some pretty cool ones with a long exposure of the raptor at night, 'painted' with a torch and then panned around to the flames of our camp fire to give a sweet mashup. Most of the shots will just looked photoshopped but it was cool to do it the oldskool way.

Very nice, cant wait to see them.

Seems I was a little trigger happy with the camera shutter, I have 300 photos to go through

In the mean time here's some pics of a little rear mudguard I made to protect the shock. A total rear mudgard to stop spray up my back would be good but they detract a little aesthetically IMO. Protecting the shock is more important to me so I decided to do some DIY modding in usual fashion. I also wanted something wide enough to shield the throw from the 24x3's I'm running (and 19x3 motorcycle tyres in the future) so most of the usual MTB ones wouldn't cut it.

I found this old pit bike front mudguard in my box-o-crap. It was a full plastics set that I ordered for my old pitbike I was going to re-birth for my wife (hence the colour) but never got around to it and she lost interest.

Trimmed to size then given a few coats of satin black it came up looking good. Then some fiddling around making some custom brackets and bolts (spent ages grinding down the available bolts I had to save a trip to the hardware store!) and it came up nice.

And one down by the river where I spent the long weekend camping. Evidently the stubby mudguard wasn't enough to keep my tail dry when I went blazing across the river  (it doesnt look it from the picture as the water was so clear but was about a foot deep)

Word on the street some of Rix's military buddies have been scoping out my raptor :p

LOL. Nice! Better not tell them you made the rear guard from an pink fleshlight insert though  ....

The faptor caused a tightening of mens pants well before any repurposed fleshlight components were used :p

While out shooting on the weekend I went back to that old abandoned tram shed I found in the bush. It still hasn't been demolished yet but they've started removing some of it. It seems it's not such a secret any more as shortly after I arrived half a dozen amateur photographers showed up. They figured I was part of the group as I had my SLR with big flash, tripod and multiple lenses out trying to get some sweet shots.
Pity my back is still rooted and I can't be doing any risky stuff, it would have been a prime opportunity to do some nice high speed passes and action shots that I can't snap of myself while riding.
What I DID manage to get though was one of their "models" who was dressed up as some sort of bow hunter. I thought he was some badass looking dude with face tats at first but when he got closer I saw it was just camo paint. haha.
I asked him if he wanted to pose on the raptor and he agreed. The other photogs snapped away furiously too but I didnt get their details though so I guess I won't get their takes on it.

Anyway here's a few of the shots. I reckon the combination of a modern ebike and oldschool bow give it a bit of a post apocalyptic future kinda feel to it 8)

Nice shots jay. Shame that there wasnt a skimpy female shoot.
Funny you should say that Rod, there actually WAS a rather attractive bikini model 100m away from where I shot laying on the train tracks but she had a more professional photography entourage with her so I couldn't swing a shot with the raptor. I did suggest it though "hey you guys should grab a shot with her on my bike". She smiled and giggled, but their response was half a laugh followed by serious face and back to what they were doing. haha

That's cool. Funny you say that, one of my friends on face book, who is a Frogman @ SEAL Team 3, will be in the next Transformers Movie. Wont say his name, he hasn't retired yet, but he the tall black guy with short curly hair. If you see the movie, you will know him then. Anyway a while back I was talking on the phone with him and he asked about ebikes in general because he saw our Yosemite video. So your comment is actually true so to speak  .

Sweet shots of "Oliver Queen" on the Raptor, old school recurve bow, as classic as it gets.

Rick

Nice Rix. How did he end up in front of the camera ? I know alot of military guys end up on staff as consultants for making movies like this but they dont often end up getting screen time so that's cool.

I saw some celebrity interview the other day, I can't remember who it was now but they were talking about videos they'd seen on youtube and it made me wonder about the sort of people globally who have watched my vids. With my channel pushing close to 1 million views now it can't all be just the ebike enthusiasts. It's cool to think that the sort of people you watch on TV or at the movies might occasionally watch my crappy videos too. heh

Tell your mate to let Michael Bay known if he wants a sweet transformers ebike built for the next movie I'll fly over and build it for a modest salary :p

Oh and Oliver Queen totally needs a hot ebike to get around on! Sweet as his Ducati is (in Arrow) it's no good for sneaking up on bad guys when stealth is required

Jay, sponsor the next big zombie movie with product placement. Best way to deal with a zombie apocalypse, decent speed, quiet, doesnt need fuel. To be honest I'm suprised someone hasnt done it. could be set in the future and be like "Were saved! a high powered ebike from back in 2014 by the look of it.. lets swap out the crappy LiPo with our zero point module." safely rides away, tailwhiping zombies faces off etc.

When I was stationed at the Naval Special Warfare Center in 1996, our Command Master Chief, Denny Chalker, Joe Hawes, and a few other pipe swinging bad asses took a month of leave to consult and play parts in the movie, The Rock with Nicholas Cage and Sean Connery and Ed Harris. Long story short, Hollywood has been contacting NSWC for decades for technical expertise and consulting in movies. My friend in the pic, has always had a flare for being animated, I know he was looking at consulting initially, but since I last talked to him, he made the leap to acting and even coins himself as an aspiring actor. His dad is a prominent musician in Chicago so being on camera in front of an audience runs in the family so to speak.

Not sure how serious Ken is, but me thinks this is a great idea.

I would love to see stealth do this. For Jay it might be like a 2 story brothel... (to much frocking overhead)
