Read up on best options on converting my Specialized S-Works aluminium full-susser - bike is sentimental, since I did 3 x Cape Epics (very tough 8-day South African stage race, now acquired by Iron-man, incidentally!).
Recovering from a broken leg, 30km ride in to work, accross some steep/very steep hills/mountain road... (60km road trip, but will be commuting IN one day, then HOME a day or two later, etc)
Also, Cape Town has REGULAR Gale-force or near gale-force winds in Summer, usually of 3 days + duration...!
So I chose a MID-drive, since I plan to acquire a set of 27.5 wheels kitted out with off-road tyres to play on the weekends.
my COMMUTING setup is 26 inch wheels, with high-pressure MTB slicks and tyre-liners front and rear...
Went with Bafang 500 W motor (BFS02?) and 11.xAh Dolphin battery, etc.
Incredibly, and a first for the bike shop that helped me with installation, we managed to fit the 'Dolphin' INSIDE the pretty-small, reduced-size triangle...!
I was accepting of the rear-rack option, but ideally WANTED it low and central, and achieved this by just SLIGHTLY reaming out the two holes in the track, that then affix to the bottle'cage mounting points...
I wanted low C.o.G. and I GOT low C.o.G....
Bike shop took apart the existing Bafang break-lever, and then constructed a switch fabrication to work with my hydraulic brakes...
Did my 1st test ride, same distance, and also up a mountain, and bike performed as good as - better - than I expected!
Pics attached.
Question: I have heard much talk that this motor is 750W, and down regulated to 500w by the regulator, any truth in the rumour?
Cheers
