A few people over on greenhybird/cleanmpg forums did exactly that - helps minimize the load on the main battery that has to charge the little one

Mine is still running original niCads it came with, but I do tend to let the pack run down completely in a few uses, and then charge it back up.

I am late as usually ;) The HCHII has two 6-cell sticks welded together in a U -shape. yeah, the fit would have to be identical to the OEM to fit- that's why my contact is looking for samples. I guess it's back to fishing on ebay..
