Is a bldc motor same as a brushless motor ?
And
Can I use a bldc or a brushless controller with a gear motor ?

1) Yes. Brushless can also include induction motors, but generally when someone says "brushless" they generally mean "brushless DC" which is a specific flavor of synchronous machine.

2) Yes. Any motor can drive a gearset.

For whatever reason, the BL stands for BrushLess, and DC in this case means it 'runs on DC voltage, vs a BLAC motor, that runs on AC. So both BLDC and BLAC motors could be referred to as brushless motors.

Although a BLDC is still an AC motor, in that the current changes directions in every phase wire in order to make it operate. ;)
