    Farfle swing arm broken!

I have a farfle swingarm, running whatever my aging 20C Turnigy packs put out, which is generally something over 15kW on a good day. No axle nuts and the steel is holding fine so far. I have yet to notice any axle movement when going from WOT to about 3.5kW regen, which is really harsh stuff...

    Getting cozy with LiPo

Resting. If the loads are sane don't pay much attention to what voltage the cell is at while loaded, from a cell perspective. Obviously the IR needs to otherwise be accounted for electrically.

To fuse or not to fuse?

Most commonly, a fuse is used to protect wiring. If the controller has a fault that causes the fuse to pop, it most likely has a big problem and is toast anyways. No fuse would simply allow the fault to correct itself, typically by going up in smoke. Lets say you are using the fuse to 'protect...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

I managed to dump the bike at something like 20 a few days ago. Apparently one hand on the bars is not terribly sufficient with a bit of unintended throttle. I'm mostly fine and the bikes fine. Just burned a hole in jeans and a shirt, a little road rash and an ankle injury. I'll be fine in a few...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

It was never really the plan, it just ended up like that. I've repaired most of the controllers without fuss. A lot of failures were really 'soft' and I often only replaced the FET's that shorted. My current 12 FET LYEN has most of its original MOSFETs. No matching or anything special, just some...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

I recently blew up a 24 FET. Expecting it's failure, I just left the 12 on the bike, and thats what I'm running now. The MaxV is set about 1/8 - 1/4 turn above where I no longer see any impact on the freewheel speed. I don't really pay attention to what the bike draws. I've been slowly...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

I do a lot of stupid things with the bike, all the time. The throttle sticking on, even for a relatively brief period, is a very bad thing. Sure, I could grab the switched brake lever, but that would turn regen on, which given my very high regen power, can be just as bad as unintended...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

If I roll off the throttle it's fine, but I'm not a big fan of the fact that the throttle 'sticks' on for a bit should I need to snap off. However I have the board configured, even with all filtering 'off', it feels like the throttle input gets lost for a brief period, and it sticks on when I...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

It's most noticeable to me I slam the throttle on from a stop, get up to 20, and snap it off. I continue to accelerate at full throttle (or nearly) for what feels like about .2 seconds. It's very repeatable and I consider it to be very noticeable. As long as you can easily feel the bike...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

The delay is BY FAR the most noticeable on my bike when accelerating at full throttle then slamming off while the bike is still pulling. It's been extremely noticeable 100% of the time I do this. Certainly would be nice to have another opinion on this delay.

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

I almost dumped the bike twice while doing rolling heaters. The throttle sticking WOT is a bit more of an issue than I initially assumed, even if its only 120ms or so.

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

You might need to put a big yellow sheet in there that says RTFM. I assumed no documentation would be included, and ended up ripping the instructions in half opening the mailer. That certainly didn't help my odds of reading it. Little arrows with +'s on the silkscreen might be a reasonable idea...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

Turns out the instructions are somewhat useful and fairly comprehensive. I have the min and max voltage set about 1/8 turn away from ideal. 26" 5404, a little over 100A @ 24S LiCo. I set the two adjustments to the minimum an it appears to be quite responsive. I should be able to mess around...

    Nevermind, my fault.

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

I have about 10 minutes of seat time with this installed. No adjustments were made aside from initial min/max throttle voltage. It's about 30ºF outside, so its not the best conditions to be going 50. I will be doing a more detailed review when I get everything dialed in, but this is just my...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

It should be on the bike in a little bit.

building my own bike light budget $50

I would just swing for the 100W LED arrays at that point. They're about $15 and are capable of reasonable light output. You absolutely need a big heatsink with airflow, but they don't put off all that much heat if you drive them at something like 50W. Straight passive will end poorly unless the...

High Lipo voltage sag and when to stop using batteries?

I have 3 year old 20C Turnigy cells that I run around 20C regularly, charge at 2C, and didn't balance in a year. I get about 5V sag at WOT when the pack is cold. They still deliver 4.4-4.5AH, but the IR is a bit higher than new cells.

    Safe, Reliable,100V+ Battery Switch + Precharge +

Another option is to simply never disconnect the pack. I didn't disconnect mine in at least a year. I have precharge, and dual main leads. One can be used to discharge while one charges, they both go the same place. I also consider my 10 gauge wire to be the fuse, so my opinion might not be...

Throttle interface for sensitive high power setups

As long as its not snowing, I'll have it on the bike the day it shows up. I keep blowing controllers up, so it's only going to be on a 12 FET on the extreme edge. It won't do power wheelies, so I don't know how big of a help it will be just yet. Pots to dial out the slop in both ends might...

    100v dc volt monitor??

Avoid having anything attached to any battery for storage. You can probably tolerate a uA or so, but most any meter is going to take a few orders a magnitude more and should not be left attached. That eBay meter claims 15-20mA consumption, which would not be noticeable while using the bike. For...

For how long do you store your full LiPo?

I charge my bike before any longer use. If I'm just going around the block whatever its sitting at is fine, but its usually never sitting below 3.7V/cell. It sits at whatever it ends up being when I get back. I prefer to have a higher power charger and usually have the pack sit something around...

    TorqArmRev4 failure

Regen is a big deal if you ask me. I almost never use friction braking. I think I'm running something like 4kW regen, which happens to be right about the point where the rear tire is at about 80% of its capabilities under normal circumstances. Over a small bump or a little grit on the road and...
