    I mostly agree with thumping... to a degree. I do more of a slap. Not only will it sound right, a bit hollow... but a good slap will send a certain vibration (I really can't explain the vibration) through the melon and back to your hand if the melon is a good one.

    Here are some "cheap" circuits you can try... use caution! The $3 battery charger: http://www.alpharubicon.com/elect/3dollarbattggn.htm I've had varying degrees of success with both and none of it was too "scientific".

    ES had a crash (or whatever) and many files ended up corrupted. I don't think it's your browser or your system. Is this the message you get? If so... the problem is not on your system.

    I agree. For that gearbox to soak up "half the torque" it would probably be smoking hot. This is a good point. Actually... did you change anything on the bike? Did the bike take a fall or get knocked over? Did anything get wet? There are a lot of variables here and we're, more or less...

    I have the same motor in my trailer and like others have said, I doubt the problem is the motor. When you had the motor apart did you happen to look into the geared side to see if all was well in there? Since it's a brushed motor... one way to test the motor would be to hook the batteries...

    Best $20 I've ever spent on my bike

    Not $20... but I've used this for 4 or 5 years. A bag of mirror circles from walmart ($1.50 IIRC), about 10 minutes bending a piece of coat hanger and tweaking it to fit, and about 20 minutes for the all purpose cement to dry. Not too difficult to bend a few for different glasses...
