Battery cells safety when building

Hi

So I am going to build my first battery soon.

What are the scenarios that could make a cell go off and explode or burn? And how do I best avoid this?

Also, I've read that they mostly start big fires if they go off. Or will they also explode at times?

Any help on how to avoid this is much appreciated.

The reason I recommend you read the forum rather than us re-posting everything here is that it would take several books' worth of posts to convey all of this information, and it is already posted in other threads.
