will i need to go to a 9 speed cassette or less, change my shifters and rear derailleur to increase chain strength to prevent breaking chains constantly?

I use 10sp, works great
Even with the stock boat anchor ring...better with the LunaEclipse ring.

I'd suggest cheaper cassettes as they are all steel.
Higher end aluminum cassettes wear faster.
