Cyclone Motor Mid-Drive Guide for IDIOTS Needed!

Any body got Ideas about a good source of lifepo4 batteries or is there something better?

Steve.

Hi Folks - (I'm sure this is going to open me up for another ID10T hiding - :? ). Anyway here goes.

The infamous 1500w Cyclone 7t (No Gearbox BLDC motor) -

1000-1500w.PNG

Keeping the post short - Will discuss build details in another thread.

I am looking for the dimensions of this unit please - ie. As the way HK provides specs -

Shaft Diameter - A (mm/inch)
Length - B (mm/inch)
Diameter - C (mm/inch)
Can Length - D (mm/inch)
Total Length - E (mm/inch)

And any other measurement data that pertains to this unit - PCD of motor mount bolt holes and size, exposed shaft length, etc.

Any DWG, DXS, SKP (or other CAD/CAM format) files would be highly appreciated if anybody has modelled a build using this motor.

I'm looking at using the unit in a custom "jackshaft" reduction mid-drive drive setup . Messing around with Boostjuice, Recumpence, the GNG Drive thread (http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=42785) and numerous other great e-bike mid-drive build reduction ratios.

Paco (Cyclone) did respond to my request but all I got was - "The motor is 120x120x190mm, bolts are M5" - mmmm - Grand designs.
Headline site not very helpful, and short of placing that 10 000 unit order my email probably attracted a lot of attention -

Gleaned the following info on what I assume is along the lines of this unit - (Ypedal had a pic that seemed to match just using the aluminium can).

cyclone motor for my has been alive. This time is a very stronger come back. better controller and cheaper alot more too. Those guys own cyclone controller or cyclone motor, Don't worry. i found a wonderful replacement controller and tested almost a year with huatong. And also green time controller can also work with cyclone. My test saw, the green time controller run very smoothly with cyclone. good, but no chance to test on road.

Lots of great information here! Special thanks to boostjuice! :D

I have a "960W" build, running on 10s Lipo. I Love the performance (but not the noise!), but didn't know that the controller is the same on the 36v and 48v kits.
What would I need to change to make use of 48v? What changes the LVC light on the throttle?

Thanks :)

hi this is my remade throttle has plastic bag over it in rain, left hand thumb is working all the time to decrease revs on gear change right hand changes gear & can signal when turning. For left hand drive countrys its got to be best . kelly controller from cyclone taiwan for my 36v was useless(pico said should have bought maxi power one -who the h would want less)(sent back) present one has to rest when too many hills this with nuvinci. Best for me is 23KG Al bike 500w cyclone still with internal controller(12ah LiFePo4) but sealed up everywhere especialy that hole at bottom (Theres better products than silicone) ,I ride through salt spray from the sea so far hasn't stuffed it but have cost motors to find out (wash bike after), other ways controller can blow too very easyily. got 2 500w under repair & need helpwith controller fitting.

Run a bead of silastic/urethane sealant around the edges of the bottom and end plates.

yep did that on the second one even stuffed some round the cables but was a victim of my own design

Im looking at the 1680watt double freewheel kit from cyclone. Anyone have any ideas on the controller? Looks like its a Kelly controller. Was thinking of getting the motor/gearbox and install kit with a lynn controller/throttle/ca running a higher voltage, like 50volts

The controller is Kelly controller at 48 volts nominal. The voltage of the battery is nominal 48 volts but it can work at 53.8 volts when the battery is fully charged and balanced after
the charging. It is a good idea to test it with the Lyen controller.
I would suggest you taking also the Kelly controller and throttle to check it. I am not sure about the results between the 2 controllers. I am sure that
Lyen has more pc - software programming functions, but the voltage will be too high if you give more than 53.80 volts. This is a small geared motor.
The Kelly is giving 35A -100A as the Kelly says but after some tests it gave lower than 50A.
I think with the Lyen you can give more A when you programe it in your pc, check the top speed results and acceleration 0-45km/h in sec and tell us more.
Also try the cooling fins which are really cheap.
Please let us know about your results. And Good luck :D :p :D

kits for trikes are the cheapest of all --Try-E bay ------Just make sure battery BMS can handle the current.ie much bigger amps than what is needed ( watts divided volts)(from bms batteries or others)put the 2 together big v battery plus motor be cheaper & more grunt.

HI guys i just did a write up on the new 3000w cyclone here on electricbike.com. https://www.electricbike.com/taking-on-the-cyclone-mid-drive-an-ebike-brute/ What a beast! But man looking for an install guide actually led me here. I ordered 100 pieces and was shocked it came in pieces...each piece in a box of 100 and it was up to me to figure out how to put the parts together.

We spent all of christmas night preassembling cyclone drive units for our customers.....crazy.

anyway i wish there were instructions somewhere online for my customer on how to put these together but this thread is the best source i can find. I will be including it in the above link.

I have been working on a 3000w cyclone build and came across this thread during initial research. This thread motivated me to do a step-by-step youtube video series as I progress through the project (still working on it as of now). Many of my ideas come from these links:
