Dont waste your money on the new GNG gen 1 kits. out of the box they dont work at all. You need to fiddle a lot with it to get working. The new freewheeling crankset is a piece of junk. only lasted a week then it came apart... bearing and the ratchet mechanism got shot. I managed to get it reliable enough as a leisure rider bike but I don't trust it as my daily commuter. Things replaced from the stock unit is, Freewheeling chain ring to the old gng version, gng controller to an em3ev infineon controller (important part), controls like a 3 speed switch, thumb throttle and cruise control button. You gonna need a programmable controller to tame the motor down as it's unridable at stock settings at 48v. I find 20amps battery and 50 amps phase is the sweet spot for this kit (1:2.5) ratio. if you don't do this, things will start breaking down....first in the list will be the small freewheel on the other side of the jackshaft. I read reports, they fail at only 1.5kw.... this kit is not meant for high power applications as you will start breaking things early in it's life without serous modifications, might as well get a LR version to avoid all that headache . if you need to have a high power mid drive, go with a big block LR or the small block LR those are designed for high power. As for the Cyclone kit.... I would not run it at 3kw. take their advertisement with a pinch of salt... I can see this working fine at 1.5kw since it got better components on the final reduction. The gears in the planetary gear box are plastic.... you dont want to run too much power on those. Now there is a newer kit out there from bafang called the BBS-HD. it's a 1kw nominal and around 1.5kw peak. I test ridden a bike with on of these recently and I am blown away on how quiet and smoother it is on my GNG gen 1. there is also no noticeable lag with the motor since the reduction is through gears, not chains or belt. it feels more powerful than my gng at the same wattage. It's not meant for super high power as the gears are also plastic. I am replacing my 2015 gen gen 1 middrive with one of those BBS-HD units pretty soon. it's $800 from lunacycles, 2X more than the gng and cyclone, but by the time I was done with my GNG, cost me additional $150 on top of the $450 price tag initially.... but if you really want it now and only got $450-$500 get the Cyclone 3kw kit instead. so yep save your money and get a better kit is my final advice.
