I am setting up a front hub motor using Grin Cycle Analyst V3. I am not using brake cutoff levers, but do want a thumb activated button (normally open, press to close) to cut off the motor at times. Grin says they do not sell such a button but if I find one I could connect to the open brake cutoff connector on the CA. Can anyone recommend an available button switch for this? Either handlebar mount, or able to attach to the Grin digital aux switch unit.

how are you soldering or wire crimping skills (or google skills)? You need one with a JST connector instead of Higo. but easy to swap out, or search a little more for one with a 4 pin male JST to mate with the CA.

You'll likely need to swap connectors anyway, since most will only come with a 2 pin JST, but Grin uses 4, since it support hall sensor levers.

Thanks. I have one of those on my BBSHD mid drive. Was not sure it was just a simple NO switch, as I saw some mention of a delay circuit, but if it works I will get another.

Have one of the buttons for regen. Have regen engage low and increase it with the throttle. My brakes are on a dual pull and did not want to mess with adding a cut off to it. I like where it is. run my throttle with the bottom of my hand not my fingers so it worked out good for me.

Mine is dead simple, PAS only no throttle and no regen. It is my steel touring bike to be used as a commuter on the road. The thumb cutoff is useful, both for downshifting and for when I have to slow pedal past a few gates.

This is the bike set up now: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ricks_boats/52592455230/in/album-72177720303403774/lightbox/

And here all ready, battery in a stealth rack bag just since I sometimes use a MUP path and better not to look like an e-bike: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ricks_boats/52609928420/in/album-72177720303403774/lightbox/

That's nice. Almost makes me want a road bike. If you painted the motor silver, it might just blend into the background, but even in black, it's small enough to barely catch your attention, unless it's a fellow ebiker looking.

Ha, I was thinking of spraying it silver! Would look like a high flange hub.

Other than the solutions already posted, you can change the switch out on one of the momentary-button types to use a latching switch instead. Most of them use a standard PCB-mount (though not usually on a PCB) like this randomly-found version:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/284575784318
though some use other types.

If you happen to have one of those turn-signal/headlight/horn combo switches on the bike, and are not using the horn, all the Wuxing ones I've used have the above type of switch in the horn, making it easy to swap out. Or use the headlight rocker switch if it's not in use, as that is already latching.

There are also motorcycle handlebar switch modules of many kinds, from one to several buttons, like these:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/184444155621
which simply bolt or screw (using the provided plate) to whatever convenient other handlebar mounted thing you have, so you don't have yet another ring to clamp to the bars. There are also fully-enclosed versions with their own clamping ring.

Thanks. I only have the Grin 2 button control, and not much room on the bar, like this:

It looks like pretty much any switch will work, I am looking for one I can glue to the side of the Grin switches.
Ideal would be if I could reprogram the orange power switch, I do not need that as the battery has a switch. Grin says no.

I think I would hot glue one of these directly to the brake lever clamp to the left of the Grin switch, for easy access:

They're both about the same size.

Thanks, very helpful!

I like that surface mount idea, with the right adhesive it should be nice and solid and very unobtrusive.

Rick, nice pics of your setup too. I have a road bike setup (Surly Cross-Check) with the Shengyi motor but now with flat bars instead of drops. I've been messing around with the original drop setup and haven't been happy with the "cockpit" with the control placement. I've been looking at other bar setups, even some sort of cow horn like units. But I like your simple setup with the addition of the aero extensions.

A lot like VO Crazy bars, but those have fixed extensions so not possible to put on a stem without a removable faceplate.

I had a technical issue with the S flag, fixed now so back to setting up a switch...
