Motortrend article with tons of info about Tesla’s Cybertruck

To be fair, we'd be in a MUCH better place in the world if most of us drove Citroen Deux'-Chevaux than what we have now. 50MPG? No problem! Crumple zones? They're called your knees scrub  Driving too fast? They top out at 55MPH and everything feels like you're going 80! It's brilliant!

Tesla and other new EV manufacturere are on the cutting edge of electrical/electronic dvelopment, and people with those skills and competancy to fault find and fix issues are few and far between, with abilities that gets them employment way up the earnings tree beyond a car repair shop.
It will be a long time before those services are readily available outside a main dealership.
"AT THE MOMENT"
Tesla is a relatively low volume luxury foreign car manufacturer who sells a few hundred cars a year into the whole of a big country like Australia and you think it's outrageous that there isn't currently an independent repairer on every street corner?
Somehow, you seem to have deliberately ignored the previous sentence....
.....even owners of 10 year old Leafs have problems finding even an official Nissan dealer that is qualified trained, and tooled up to deal with drive train issues. ....
And the Leaf is one of the biggest selling, best known, “longest established” EVs, from a manufacturer with one of the biggest dealership networks in the world.
But either way, you are re enforcing my point that the vast majority of EV owners have very little choice in the event of a problem, but to go back and pay ransom to the dealerships.

Here's Rich Rebuild's youtube channel with clear links and addresses to his EV Repair shop, in a state with "Right to Repair" laws. Your argument is invalid.

How many Leafs sold each yeah in Aus? Compared to how many Porsche Boxsters? How many generic Fords and Holdens?

I find myself saying this once again, but your local experience does not equal the World. There are places outside your borders and they are not necessarily the same!

? I am well aware of Rich and his “outlaw” shop...that is where this discussion of electronic repairs originated.
But tell me how that helps the tesla owner with a fried ECU in New York ?....are they seriously going to get their car towed to Salem for a warranty threatening fix ?..
.....or just get one of the numerous NY Tesla service shops to fix it ?... At Tesla prices.
Then ask the same question for owners in Florida, Tx, ..or any of the other areas around Teslas home country.
Further, ..this is Tesla.. first of the EV makers, been around for 10 years...and all you can offer is one shop hidden away on the East coast?
As i said...” how long until these skillsets are widely available ?”.. ( Even Rich R was not repairing the ECU/Loggers etc)
Your solution is invalid !

I dont know,..why dont you look it up using your well known search ability
Certainly not many, they withdrew the earlier model from sale in 2016 after all the warranty issues with battery degradation , and poor sales due to the high price ( 2+x the price of an ICE model), and poor range .
The revised model has only just been made available at dealers.
On the same topic ,.... how many independent Tesla repair shops can you name in the UK ??
...or Leaf specialists ?...after all they are made there !

Correct me if I'm mistaken but Tesla 3 outsold leaf in Australia last year, just like everywhere else. No need to look up data I already posted it in the thread. Nothing different here in our EV hating nation.

Heck I think Tesla outsold Porche globally last year too? * All models included.

How many God damn cars do they need to sell to be considered a major player 😂

Anyway the more they sell, the more skilled mechanics that want to service them will appear. Demand drives these things and the demand seems to be increasing. How much different countries lock consumers into stealerships will determine how many are able to do so too.

It's just going to take time, it's not like many people could afford them until recently. Not to mention they were certainly not selling enough to support an aftermarket servicing industry 10 years ago!

Not aware enough, you're still arguing.

What can they do? If the state has right to repair laws, they can Buy the ECU from Tesla and install themselves, call the road service, look for dealerships who can replace it, look for TESLA dealerships that can fix it, swap out a used one, and then there's a company that either has (or will soon) sell you a replacement that's hardier than the last to repair your existing ECU.

People take these apart with butter knives and 10mm sockets.

Now you are not only agreeing fully with my original point...that the only real option is to suck it up and pay for a Tesla Dealer fix ( forget the DIY owner replacement !).
...and you are talking BS about fixing Tesla electronic devices with butter knives !
Its one thing to take something apart, but quite a different skill to find the fault and repair it. !

Could you please stop flip-flopping between your argument being:

1) EVs are unreliable, regardless of support
2) There's no dealer support for EVs
3) There's dealer support but little independent garage support

None of these things apply to EV's!
Maybe not, but EVs have their own specific issues..
https://insideevs.com/news/376037/tesla-mcu-emmc-memory-issue/
Tesla transmission replacements..
Front suspension failure
Leaf batteries

Teslas don't have transmissions, bonehead. For anybody who's never met this guy in person, he's built like an unwrapped mummy and dresses like a bucket drummer. When we were kids in Aus his dads boyfriend used to discipline him.

If you are going to debate something, please get your facts straight first !
1) .i have never said that
2)..i have never said that either
3).. yes !

Ahem.

Oh !...so what would you prefer to call this ?....a “box of gears “ maybe ?
sDjOhK.jpg

Strange that.. most people with a basic understanding of drive systems refer to that assembly of gears and shafts between the motor and the wheels,..as a TRANSMISSION mechanism ! ...because it is transmitting the drive torque from the motor to the wheels
And, before you open your arse again and say anything else, yes, i do know it doesnt have a clutch or multiple ratio selection !......but it is still a trans mission assembly, full of gears, bearings, shafts, oil, and seals.
.....and Tesla have had to replace many of them !

I can't tell if you're deliberately dishonest or just delusional but either way you're full of it...

Neither. He's playing the "redefine words to win the argument" game. It's a popular game to play when you are losing an argument.

.
Strange that !...when it is actually you guys who keep going off topic and dragging the thread into personal comments rather than constructively discussing the actual issues ?
Yet again , a case of attempting to silence the messenger if you dont like the message.

Go on then, what is your "message" about the Cybertruck? Please enlighten us, oh great curmudgeonly ludite...

As i suspected, you either do not read threads, or have a poor memory / comprehension....probably both !
I made my views on the CT clear on the first page,
..... before the thread got sidetracked (Feb 4) into a discussion on EV vs ICE maintenance costs

Oh, I can read just fine thanks. I also do a reasonable job of comprehending your attempts at misinterpreting data, distorting fact and denial of reality*. What I struggle with is remembering where you've moved the goalposts to with each and every post

*Your anti-science, pro-status quo attitude towards EVs and renewable energy is well known on this forum

Wait, he's Strayan? No wonder I needed to be drunk to understand his posts
